Messages from the Office, Assistant Principal and Learning Specialists...

Welcome to Seda Moss

Hello everyone! I’m Seda Moss and I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the South Melbourne Primary School community. I grew up in Turkey and worked as educational support in UK and as a teacher in Melbourne and did a few other studies along the way. I love to learn and help students build positive relationships. I am passionate about inclusion and ensuring every student feels supported in their time at primary school. When I am not at school, I enjoy going on very long bike rides and listening to music and dancing. I am really looking forward to meeting you and getting to know your children starting in Term 2.

---------------------------

Ms Seda will be taking over from Ms Sophie Coote who is expecting her first child in a few weeks time. Ms Seda assumes a variety of responsibilities including daily organisation (staff), learning support (tutoring) and other classroom teaching roles. We are excited to welcome Seda to our community and know that everyone will help make her feel very welcome over the coming weeks.

Good Luck Sophie Coote

We wish Sophie Coote all the best as she finishes up on Tuesday before beginning her time in parenthood. Sophie has been a wonderful teacher and professional and we cannot wait to hear about the birth of her first child. We wish you and your family all the very best.

Celebration of Learning

We are thrilled to announce that we will (finally) be opening our doors to our wonderful families during Education Week (May 23-May 27). On Tuesday May 24 our current families will be invited to join the children in their classrooms to celebrate their learning and participate in some fun activities together.

Following this, we will be hosting some games in the Front Forecourt and welcome families to bring a warm jacker, picnic rug/deck chair and mingle with other families. Our fabulous FAF team will be providing a BBQ and cake stall. Stay tuned for further details coming soon!

SMPS Open Day

Following our Celebration of Learning, members of the wider community and prospective families seeking to enrol their children will be invited to attend the School's official Open Day. This is a significant event for the School as we showcase our wonderful teachers, students and programs at the school.

If you know of any family who is looking for a great school for their child, please encourage them to register their details for the event via the link on our website: register here.

SMPS Uniform Supply

Bob Stewart have informed their school communities that they are continuing to suffer some ongoing disruption to the supply chain delays and seek your assistance to help manage the transition from Summer to Winter uniform for term 2.

As The South Melbourne uniform is trans-seasonal the changeover period does not apply however, we thought it was important to let our families know that not all uniform items may be available all the time due to the disruption they are experiencing.

The last two years have been very challenging:

  • the global pandemic has disrupted both local and off shore manufacturing.
  • manufacturers have had to close for sustained periods and have not been able to work at 100% capacity for months.
  • some manufacturers are now quoting 6 plus months delivery. Local manufacturing is now at capacity for the next 3 months.
  • power restrictions and recent lockdowns in China continue to disrupt supply.
  • freight and logistics are now compounding the problem, with shipping delays, lack of air freight and port congestion.
  • inbound goods are generally taking an extra 15+ days to clear customs.
  • staff shortages

Bob Stewart are anticipating that some Winter garments will not be available until late April/mid May. We are proposing that if families are yet to purchase the winter uniform to wait until mid May to reduce the stress and also help with social distancing in the store.

PLEASE NOTE : Store will be closed from Thursday 7th April through to Sunday and will reopen on Monday 11th April

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund

to those who have already in receipt of CSEF funding from previous years, you will now be able to see your unallocated receipt of $125 against your account on Compass and when paying for the school contributions you can include this figure for the excursion/incursion levy. To our new families, the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

  • school camps or trips

  • outdoor education programs
  • excursions and incursions.

The deadline to apply for CSEF is June 24, 2022 in order to be granted funding for this year. Families who hold a valid concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted to the office by the above date. More information on the eligibility criteria can be found here: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/programs/Pages/csef.aspx If you have not previously applied for CSEF, please submit the application form and a copy of your concession card to the office or via email at your earlier convenience.
