Term 2 is well underway and we are in for a very busy and productive teaching and learning period.
Persuasive texts will be at the centre of our learning in literacy and we will be focusing on the writing process and putting our ideas together. We will be looking at spoken, written and visual texts as well as persuasive language devices to craft our writing. We are hoping to apply our knowledge and understanding of persuasive texts to complete an in-class debate at the end of the term. Mr Hunt will be completing modelled reading with the help of Libby Gleeson’s novel ‘Red.’ ‘The Great Bear’ is also being read to accompany Stage 2’s Persuasive Writing unit.
In Mathematics students will be covering the sub strands of whole-number, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, patterns and algebra, fractions and decimals, data, position, length, area, position and time.
Students will be investigating how people change the natural environment in Australia and other places around the world. We will analyse how the environment influences the human characteristics of places whilst building on our geographical concepts, skills and tools.
During Creative Arts Mrs Schaeffer will be looking at 1-point perspective to give the illusion of space and depth on real-life places and locations.
The Material World of Science is going to be questioned, planned and conducted. Students will be identifying the different properties of materials and how this affects their suitability for products. They will have the opportunity to develop a design solution to an identified need or opportunity, using a variety of materials.
Students will be developing and performing fundamental movement skills (FMS) through a game-sense approach. We will explore different approaches to moving to effectively participate in games and athletic events. This will all link closely with mandatory child protection materials.
Mrs Fortescue will be developing our ICT skills with a 3D printer to develop computational thinking skills in applying abstract thinking to categorise objects, solve problems, design procedures and collect data. Students will use their skills to modify a toy that already exists and create a PowerPoint to persuade an audience to buy their toy.
