From the Principal

Principal's Report

Welcome to the last newsletter for 2018.  After one week of Year 11 Orientation classes our Year 10 students officially finished last Friday.  Year 7, 8 and 9 students will begin their Step Up program this week in preparation for 2019.

End of Year activities will commence next week.

Principal Long Service Leave and Retirement

As announced in the last newsletter, I am taking Long Service Leave next year before retiring.  Arthur Soumalias is Acting Principal for most of 2019.  We are now in the process of looking for a new Assistant Principal,  an opportunity to make the Leadership Team even stronger at Rosehill.

I would like to thank all parents and students who have wished me well over the last two weeks.  At the most recent Rosehill School Council meeting I was presented with a stunning watch which I will treasure.  Each Council member wrote individual messages on a card, I was moved by the comments.

School Council Notes

As mentioned above the Rosehill School Council recently held their last meeting for year.

  • Finances:  The Program Budgets for 2019 were presented and KLA’s  have been presented a budget they have been allocated to run their faculties.  The budget also takes into account such items as Building Services, Grounds Maintenance and Inspections of equipment to meet OHS standards.
  • New Air-conditioner:  Approval was given for the purchase and installation of a new Air-Conditioner for B10, (one of our art rooms).  Keeping the environment comfortable in all our classrooms is important.
  • Leasing Arrangements and Contracts:  One contract arrangement was signed off.  Bocca Foods will continue to lease our canteen for the next three years.
  • Financial Management Policies:  The Department of Education and Training require our Council to develop a range of policies in terms of managing school finances.  Council signed off on a Fund Raising Policy, a Parent Refund Policy, a Visitors Policy and  a Volunteers Policy.
  • Camps:  Two camps were approved:  Year 7 Forest Edge Camp 2019 and the Year 8 Lady Northcote Camp 2019
  • Gym Hire:  Approval for Ready Steady Go Kids to continue hiring our Gym on Sunday mornings in 2019 was granted.  We have a number of organisations that hire our Gym during the week with all proceeds going directly towardso gym maintenance.  Both Rosehill Secondary College and the hirers, certainly benefit from these arrangements.
  • General Business: Reports from the Assistant Principals were presented to Council.  These reports give Council members an insight into all aspects currently taking place around the school.

On behalf of the College Community, I would like to thank the School Council Members for all their efforts this year.  The meetings can take them away from their families but they play an important role in the management and governance of the College.

Student Numbers 2019

Rosehill Secondary College will have approximately 1200 students in 2019.  We have 223 students (9 classes) commencing in Year 7.  Tuesday this week is Orientation Day.  Most students will attend a full day at Rosehill, where they will attend classes and find out their allocated home rooms.

College Captains

Congratulations to the 2019 Senior Leadership Team. The College is very proud to have such a strong group of candidates running for School Captaincy and Student Leadership. A special congratulations to the two School Captains, Kyle Di Pastena and Sarah McNabb, and Vice Captains Rhys Marks and Perri Robinson. The 2019 Senior Leadership Team also includes Makayla Watt, Tom Coombes, Vivian Lieu, Stephanie Panagiotidis, Olivia Watson and Lauren Grech.

Wishing all our Rosehill Families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
