Grade 5/6 Italian Day

Art –

On Wednesday the 12 of June, we had an Italian day to celebrate Italy and its wonders. We had 4 rotations to learn about Italy throughout the day, one of which was art. Michelangelo was an artist who painted the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, Italy. If you have seen the Sistine Chapel, it is a hallway with the walls and ceiling covered with beautiful paintings. In order to paint these, Michelangelo had to bend up and paint the ceiling. In art, we had to draw like Michelangelo and look up on the ceiling and draw. Drawing on the ceiling is permanent and dangerous, so under the table we went. It was hard to draw under the table but fun at the same time. We all learnt one important thing: Michelangelo is awesome and drawing under the table is hard!!

Language –

On Wednesday we did Italian things and one of them was language with Miss Junor. We played Tombala first. It is the same version as bingo but in Italian and when you get four in a row you say Tombala. Then we came up with a sentence with a partner in Italian then we recorded it. Some of the words we used were Si which means Yes, Buona Sera meaning Good Evening. It was such a good day! Ce Vediamo! (see you later)

Geography –

On Wednesday the 12th of June the grade fives sixes had an Italian day! We did four activities, But you’ve already heard about them. We are here to talk about geography. Yay said nobody ever, but it was actually fun. Whilst we were in Mr Woodward's class we learnt about the different regions and macro regions in Italy.

We learnt about the North-West, North-East, Centre, South and Island regions. We got a map and we had to mark out the different regions. Then we had to come up with questions about the regions to put in a kahoot.

Cooking –

On the Twelfth of June the 5\6 students had an Italian day.

Since it was an Italian day we made pasta from scratch. We used eggs, olive oil, flour and salt. After that we kneaded the dough until it was ready for the pasta machine Mrs Hicks and Nicole helped us put it through while Mrs Loughran made a delicious pasta sauce. We had a lovely dining space to enjoy our meals and Mrs Hicks was definitely best dressed.
