MRPS Working With Children's Check Information

It is a requirement for volunteers (including parents) in our school to have a Working with Children Check.

What activities will require a Working with Children Checks (WWCC)?

Parents and volunteers in our school will require Working with Children Checks for a range of school activities that involve interacting with students such as school camps, excursions, school swimming and any ongoing volunteering in the classroom (reading etc.). This is consistent with Victorian Government requirements.

WWCCs will not be required for any school fundraising or social activities such as VIP day, working bees, school fete etc.

Why is Miners Rest PS doing this now?

As part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Betrayal of Trust report, there is a new regulatory landscape (Ministerial Order No. 870) surrounding child safety, underpinned by new Child Safe Standards. This order came into operation on the 1st of August 2016. WWCCs are an important way we can protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our students and are part of our MRPS Code of Conduct.

How much does it cost?

Volunteer WWCCs are free.

How long does it take?

It generally takes 2-3 weeks for applications to be finalised. After this, it will take two more weeks for your card to be mailed to you.

BOOK CLUB 2019

Book Club will return for 2019 in Term 2. Just a reminder that all orders must be placed online through the Scholastic LOOP at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP .

More information about LOOP can be found at the following link: www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP_How_to_Order_and_Pay

Can’t wait to get some books? As part of the Fete on 29th March there will be a Book Fair. This will be a fantastic opportunity to not only get books for your home library, but to earn money for the school as a percentage of each book sold goes straight back to MRPS.

If anyone especially new families, has any questions, please see Mrs. Brown.

MRPS Fete

Save the Date: 2019 School fete Friday March 29 5pm-8.30pm

The organising committee are in full swing preparing for the upcoming fete. We are asking if any parents or families who run or own a small business and would like to have a stall at the fete to please contact the office as soon as possible to obtain a booking form. We would love to have lots of representation from our local community. In addition, if you know of someone who may be interested to run a stall, please refer them to the school for further information.

There are a number of A3 Fete posters available at the school office. It would be great if parents could collect some to place in their business or workplace to promote the event.

Alternatively, if you own a business and would be able to provide some form of sponsorship either cash donation or goods, this would be much appreciated and we would happily acknowledge your support through the school newsletter.

Individual classrooms will be running stalls and will require support from families. There will be an item in the Week Four newsletter outlining specific requirements.

How nude is your food?

As a nude food promoting school, we encourage our students to bring all food to school without single use wrappers. Our school does provide composting containers for fruit and vegetable scraps from Monday to Friday.  Any other single use wrappers (cling film, zip lock bags, muesli bar wrappers, yoghurt pouches and tubs etc.) will be returned home in lunchboxes for disposal.  We promote plain water in a reusable drink bottle.
