School Council

School Council Presidents Report
Welcome back to all students, staff, families and carers for what will be another awesome school year at our school and kindergarten! The School Council has continued to work with the Department of Education and Training (DET) and the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) on the school master plan layout. We have also engaged with the City of Ballarat around opportunities for shared facilities and additional funding. This detailed planning process will continue for some months before requests for tenders are placed in late 2019, with construction expected to commence in 2020. There will be additional consultation with the school community in the coming months around design proposals.
Each year School Council members elect office bearers to lead the council. After 5 years in the role I have decided that I will not nominate for President this year. Our School Council has achieved so much in the last few years and we have a wealth of supportive and collaborative leaders who can easily fill the role. The next School Council President will bring with them new ideas and energy that will continue to advance our school and kindergarten. I will remain on School Council as a member and look forward to continuing to work within our great team.
If anyone is keen on being more involved in the school governance we will be asking for nominations to the School Council, Kindergarten Executive Committee and the Parents and Friends Association in the next month. These roles are rewarding and are critical to supporting the staff and students across our school and kindergarten settings. More information will be distributed by Principal Dale Power.
The school council meeting was held on 11 February with sub-committees starting at 6:15pm followed by a General Meeting at 7:00pm. The key items discussed were:
- Master Planning Sub-committee - Plans presented for the Kindergarten accessibility upgrades, some delays in planning have meant that these works will now occur in Term 1 holidays. Reviewed Asset Management Plan prepared by Principal. Will transition from general working bees to targeted project works this year.
- Publicity Sub-committee - Continued planning for school fete which will be held on 29 March 2019.
- Policy Sub-committee - No meeting held due to absences.
- Finance Sub-committee - Financial reports for December 2018 and January 2019 reviewed and passed.
- Kindergarten Executive Committee - AGM scheduled for election of new committee members next week.
- School Council - Briefed on a new software packaging being investigated by Principal to support student data recording and analysis. This package might also allow us to reduce the number of communication/engagement applications we currently use with families e.g. FlexiBuzz, Seesaw, Qkr etc. Reviewed the School Council Standing Orders, these will be formally endorsed at the March 2019 meeting.
