From the Acting Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Thank you and Announcements

Catholic Education South Australia has recently announced Sean Hill as the new Principal of St Gabriel's School.  Sean is currently the Principal of Stella Maris Parish School at Seacombe Gardens.  Sean has held this position for the last 12 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to St Gabriel's School.  We welcome him to our community and Sean will begin at St Gabriel's School on May 27.

I would like to express a very big THANK YOU to all who have contributed to the events, experiences and learning of our students this term. I would like to thank the members of the School Board and our community who have supported me in the role of Acting Principal and I look forward to continuing this work with you.  I would like to thank Angela Scodella for all that she has contributed to St Gabriel's School over this term.  We are lucky to have Angela continue to join us for the first 4 weeks of next term, still in the capacity of Acting Deputy/APRIM.  Angela will then return to her substantive position of APRIM and then Acting Deputy Principal at Whitefriars for the remainder of the term.

This term has flown by, way too quickly;  I hope that as you look back on this term you and your family have many fond memories.  This term we have focused on our School Vision Statement stem of “Valuing Relationships.” I hope that a strong connection has been developed between home and school and your child / children have strengthened their sense of belonging and connection with their teachers, fellow classmates and our whole community.  Every student at St Gabriel's school is now connected with SeeSaw.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to engage with your child's/children's  learning and see exactly what they are doing.  You can respond on your child's page and can surprise them at home  when you can talk about their learning for the day. If you are one of the few parents who has not been able to connect, can you please see your class teacher to support you with this.

This Friday is Casual Clothes Day with a gold coin donation for Project Compassion and Caritas.

Learning Conversations & Ongoing Chats With Teachers

Thank you to the many parents / carers who took up the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher for a learning conversation. We hope these were a beneficial opportunity. It is never too late for a learning conversation, again I remind you that teachers are always happy to chat about your child’s learning.  So please don’t wait for these more formal occasions.

We know many parents take up the opportunity to connect regularly with teachers and we encourage this. Can we seek your help and ask you to try not to have in depth conversations during the busy morning time at the start of the day.  Teachers at this time are concerned with getting all of the class settled for the day and engaged with learning.  If you have concern or want to chat with a teacher we would suggest you indicate this in a note in your communication book, email your child’s teacher or approach them in the morning just saying you would like a chat. Teachers can then follow up with you at a more convenient time.

On ANZAC Day (25th April) we remember those who have defended our peace and freedom in war and peacetime.  We especially remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us.  Lest we forget.

We wish you a wonderful break and a very happy Easter Season.
