Book Week Celebrations

Congratulations to everyone for your fabulous efforts to celebrate book week. The quality and creativity were truly on display from the kids and staff. Unfortunately, David our resident librarian, who has been on personal leave with family in England missed a great parade. We would like to say thank you to Margaret for organising a wonderful Book Week celebration. Here are some wonderful costumes from today:

Building Works ………………..at last!!

This week we finally got the greenlight for the building works to start! There will be an official ceremony to celebrate and acknowledge the start of this massive project for Newlands. The Ceremony will include the Minister, students, staff and the community. This is such a fabulous step forward for Newlands after nearly two years of planning, developing the concept and now starting the project.

What’s next?

We expect the contractors to be on site before the end of term three setting up fencing and barriers around the Elizabeth Street oval/play area. Once we have a more comprehensive understanding of work details, we will set out a dedicated page in the weekly newsletter outlining planned construction works any interruptions to access or other planned disruptions during school time. We also use SENTRAL to inform the community where possible of any changes to school access and other related building related movements.

What we know

Term four the following will be happening:

  • No one will have access to the Elizabeth Street oval.
  • Elizabeth Street pedestrian gate will not be accessible to the school community.
  • All students will play on the bottom oval during lunch and recess.
  • The office will be relocated to the current staffroom.
  • Staff carpark will be relocated to the ‘Cases’ area on Murphy Street.
  • The pedestrian gate opposite the school crossing will be closed permanently.
  • Pedestrian access will be via the de-commissioned staff car park driveway and the gate in the lane way.
  • The bike storage area will be re-located to a new designated space . TBC

2023 Foundation Transition

We have started our foundation transition program this term. The program got of to a great start and will continue this term and term four. Reminder that all relevant forms need to be presented before your child can be considered fully enrolled for 2023. These documents include an enrolment form, Birth Certificate and Immunization Certificate.

Vandalism

Unfortunately, we have had intruders in the main school building – Foundation and 2/3 classrooms. The result was low level graffiti and messing up the rooms. School council has approved for the school to move and apply for CCTV cameras to be installed externally around the school. The cameras will only be installed and operated under Department of Education strict operational policy guidelines.

ILP Meetings

Due to feedback from parents, we have made the decision to hold the next ILP meetings early in term four. Parents will be sent times and dates for these meetings.
