NAPLAN Results

Children in Years Three, Five, Seven and Nine will soon receive their results from this year’s NAPLAN testing. These will be available via SEQTA. It is important to note that NAPLAN results are only one tool used to assess student progress. Heads of Learning Areas, and classroom teachers, will consider NAPLAN results and compare them to student achievement at school, which gives us a broader picture of student progress.

Please note that, when the online testing took place earlier in the year, there were some COVID related absences around the testing dates which may mean your child has some data missing.

NAPLAN has greater emphasis for Year Nine students, as it is the start of the process towards achieving the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), where students need to attain a satisfactory level of Reading, Writing and Numeracy, which is a level of Band 8.

Year Nine students who do not achieve this band in one or more areas are required to complete Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessments or OLNA. Students have multiple attempts at OLNA in Years Ten, Eleven and Twelve. This year, Year Nines are able to access OLNA early, which is advantageous to students who missed testing due to illness, especially COVID isolation.

More details on OLNA Testing for this year will come out from the school soon. Teachers will prepare students in advance and they will be able to access practice tests as well. Here is a PDF from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) which has more details about OLNA.

If you have any queries around your child’s NAPLAN results please feel free to contact me, or your child’s classroom teacher, at school via email.
