Partnering with the Community

Goal Three on the School’s Strategic Plan is Collaborative Partnerships. Teacher, Mr Kyal Rose has participated in a community collaboration with Great Southern FM to engage younger voices on the air.  Mr Rose established the partnership and recruited and mentored students, with the programme continuing for six months. Year Eleven students Nathan Rogozinski and Matthew Walmsley have been working hard in their spare time to develop their technical and presenting skills to establish a radio show, and now independently broadcast monthly in a dedicated timeslot. They have been welcomed as independent presenters with ongoing standing. Their commitment to a long training plan that included operational and creative commitments have been formally recognised in correspondence to the School from Great Southern FM.

Love of Learning

At this week’s assembly, we highlighted the importance of loving learning. It may be learning a second language, how to juggle or even learning to light a fire. Students who have a genuine love of learning find meaning and purpose in learning itself. They enjoy and see inherent value in it, often connecting it to a bigger purpose. If the purpose of life is to learn, then every learning experience, success or failure, becomes a step in the right direction.

R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day is an annual campaign which aims to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those around them and to provide support when someone is in need.

The R U OK? Day theme this year is “Are they really OK? Ask them today”.  We are all encouraged to Ask R U OK?, Listen, Encourage Action, and Check In.  At GSG, we're joining in on the conversation. Today at morning tea, staff shared personal tips on dealing with how to improve mental health and how to promote discussions within our community.  It is so important that we discuss mental health.

Sporting Finals

There are numerous sporting finals being held this weekend. Good luck and good wishes to all students involved.
