Secondary 7/8

7/8A

In 7/8A, we are so proud making through another busy term packed with great adventures and the most spectacular show of the year ‘Mamma Mia’! As we moved from celebrating the culture in Victoria to learning about common natural disasters, we have ventured out to Kinglake, Healesville and met with wonderful zoo keepers, firefighters and SES workers, who told us about the horrible impacts and ways to stay safe. It was a lot of information to take in and we will continue to investigate these topics next term and brainstorm what we can do to help.

Our Spectacular show is definitely one of a kind, full of energy and laughter. If you missed it by any chance, there will be recording available either later this year or next year. Now that we have worked so hard, let’s take a break and get ready for the last awesome term!

7/8B

Secondary 7/8B have had another busy and exciting term filled with enriching and engaging learning experiences. Throughout term 3, students have continued to give their all, while stepping out of their comfort zones. Students have strengthened positive friendships and should be proud of their resilience, determination and strength. As a class, we have been involved in several exciting experiences, including, the Mamma Mia Spectacular, Footy Day, section games and of course our weekly experiences days.

Students have been learning all about Natural Disasters, to help students understand and learn through hands-on experiences, we have travelled to some amazing places with our friends in 7/8 A and C. The students have had the pleasure of visiting Kinglake, Healesville Sanctuary and the newly built SES facility in Heidelberg, along with some incursion from Swinburne University and Mad about Science. 7/8B should be proud of their growth and development throughout this term.

7/8C

Secondary 7/8C has enjoyed another fun term, jam packed with lots of learning, laughter and memories. At the end of Term 2, we concluded our learning about Victorian landmarks and landscapes which prepared the students well for our new unit: Natural Disasters. First up we learned about the features and impacts of bushfires for half of the term before moving on to floods. We have had Experience Days to Kinglake, Healesville Sanctuary, SES Heidelberg and IMAX and incursions from local Firefighters, Swinburne PrimeSCI and Mad About Science.

Another big highlight was of course the Spectacular. The students put in such a big effort and should be very proud of their performance. Well done on another great term, 7/8C!

7/8D

Term 3 has gone very quickly. Our students believe that this has been a wonderful term. Upon a class reflection we have identified a number of successful events throughout the term. We have been tirelessly practising for School Spectacular dances daily. We hope you enjoyed the show. We also celebrated Book Week with an incursion from Lisa Keskinen who wrote a book called Billy Babborooni. During Book Week, students in 7/8D enjoyed an out of uniform day. We particularly liked watching Extreme Weather at IMAX, in conjunction to our recent learning in Inquiry. We were also thrilled to participate in all of the fun activities organised at Footy Day.

Secondary 7/8D has highlighted that they had lots of fun organising and participating section based teacher vs students’ games. 7/8D was very fortunate to celebrate the return of our student Zac Stevens with a special lunch and a treat. We thank all our students, staff and parents for your contribution in our learning journey. Happy Holidays.

7/8E

Secondary 7/8E have had a Spectacular term. We welcomed our teacher Karen back after her surgery and we welcomed 2 new students to the class. The highlight for the girls and Karen was the performance of ‘Mamma Mia’; all girls were outstanding dancers and Phoebe and Olena stepped up to be the lead acting stars. The boys loved; Footy Day, Training Sessions with Jesse and the excursion to IMAX. Our favourite activity in Maths was making individual mug cakes for our Measurement lesson. We have loved learning about the Natural Disasters in the Integrated Unit, Reading and in Writing. Seven of us have our fingers crossed for the AFL Finals – Go Pies!

7/8F

Term 3 has been productive. The students have formed an excellent routine and stamina for their learning and created a supportive environment with each other to give their best. Our inquiry unit on Natural Disasters has been a learning highlight as we integrated this within Reading and Writing. Our text analysis of Fire, Flood and Cyclone has been fascinating from a personal viewpoint, whereas our writing has focused on Explanation of the text of a Natural Disaster. We visited the IMAX watching Extreme Weather, led the year 7/8 games showcasing their leadership and organisational skills as a team, and managed the practice and performance of Mamma Mia within Spectacular.

The students shared these comments of their reflections throughout the term:

"I like learning about Tsunami's and how strong they are."

"The 7/8 games were fun, and I liked organising the games for the others."

"I was nervous about catching the train into the city and going down the giant escalator, but I still enjoyed it."

"I am excited because I know my reading is getting better. I know how to figure out the sounds of the words."

7/8G

What a term it has been! The students in 7/8G have had a very busy and fun-filled term, with lots of exciting and engaging learning experiences. Throughout Term 3, students have demonstrated high levels of engagement and determination with their learning and friendships have continued to strengthen. 7/8G has thoroughly enjoyed our integrated unit on natural disasters, in reading and writing. This term we introduced STEAM in the classroom and it was a great success! The volcano experiment and building flood resistant structures were standouts amongst all students. Some other recent highlights include our excursion to the IMAX, footy day, and Mamma Mia Spectacular.

Here are a few comments from the students about what they have enjoyed this term:

"I really liked playing the guitar in music, it was awesome!"

7/8H

Term 3 has been jam-packed for 7/8H, with a host of extra-curricular activities to complement our learning. We have worked very hard to rehearse for the 7/8 Spectacular, Mamma Mia. The students have shown dedication and should be very proud of their class dance. We had an excursion to IMAX to watch a movie about extreme weather and all enjoyed our popcorn. We celebrated book week with an author visit from Lisa, who wrote Billy Bobarooni and the Mystery Words, which we continue to read as a class. Some of the Book Week costume highlights include Thing 2 and The Cat in the Hat! A delicious sausage sizzle rounded off a fun Footy Day. We wish the students a well-earned rest these holidays.
