Literacy and Numeracy Week

Literacy and Numeracy Week @ St John’s 2022

What a wonderful final week we had last term!

From the Spelling Bee to the Book Character Parade to our shared reading of Claire Saxby’s “Iceberg” to the Book Swap to our fabulous Math Family Night to the Buddy reading sessions to Digital Literacy Activities to readings from different teachers to AFL dress ups and our wonderful book creations...it was go, go, go and a whole lot of fun!

On Tuesday, it was great to see the persistence and bravery of those in our Spelling Bees. Our courageous spellers were so successful that we had to continue into the next day! Many thanks to Connor, Jasmine and Chanel for hosting this event.

On Wednesday, The Book Character Parade had everyone smiling. We had a range of amazing costumes from students and staff. Special mentions go to our colourful fish, B1 and B2 (“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”), our Paddingtons, our Cats in hats, our Hermiones and Harry Potters, and our beautiful Alice in Wonderland cast! Thank you to the parents and students for your enthusiasm and creativity with costumes which resulted in a very successful morning, superbly hosted by the inquisitive Jarrod and Estelle.

We finished the day with a Math Family Night . Thanks to those families who were able to attend. We know there was a lot of fun and head scratching enjoyed by all! Staff thoroughly enjoyed going to other classrooms during the week to read their favourite stories. It was fantastic to watch the children responding to different faces and voices...and seeing staff in a different setting.

Similarly, the Book Swap was lovely to be a part of. Children were heard making such positive remarks about their ‘new books’ and it was a delight to see the joy of giving.

Thank you to all students, parents and staff for actively participating in all of our celebrations in Literacy and Numeracy week. Weeks like this are what make our wonderful school so very special.
