JUNIOR DUCKS GO QUACK QUACK

On Thursday, 25th August, three of our junior teams competed at the NMR Finals. First, our Year 7 girls teams battled valiantly and won their three opening matches. This set up a Grand Final against Melbourne Girls College and being an all-girls school was never going to be easy.  Our youngest ducks went down 2 to 4 and 25 points.  Maybe if we had our full-strength line up we could have got a tickle closer.  Well done to all the girls involved and what a #1 doubles final that went down to 19 to 21 in a packed spectator fish tank.  Easily the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen watching a badminton match, it was two deep the whole court round.

Next, we had better results with both the Year 8 teams going through to the State Finals to be played Friday, 9th September.  With only a couple of players carrying over from last year, it was pretty much a new look Year 8 squad with many just mastering the ropes.  The boys were sensational and basically monstered all comers all day and defeated Montmorency in the Grand Final 6 to 0.  The girls were the highlight of the day, this time getting the better of Melbourne Girls College in their Grand Final 5 to 1.  Once they actually realised they’d made the State Finals, they were running around with cheers of joy, it was very funny and rewarding to witness.

All the best now for the big challenges and matches that lay ahead.  Either way it’s been a fun and exciting adventure, that will finish with playing against schools from all over Victoria.
