Drama News

with Ms Calabria

On Tuesday the 14th of September the Year 12 Drama students completed their HSC performance examinations. The examinations consist of an 8-12 minute group devised performance and a 6-8 minute individual monologue which is usually performed for an audience and an external marking panel.

Unfortunately, due to covid, the performance examinations looked a little different this year. Sadly, no audience was allowed and the performances were marked by the classroom teacher Miss Calabria, and Head of Creative Arts Matthew Segrave.

Lockdown hitting at the beginning of term 3 meant that rehearsal time for the students was severely limited. Rehearsals had to be conducted over zoom and opportunities to meet face to face were few and far between. However, in the face of unprecedented challenges, the students demonstrated incredible courage, focus, and resilience.

They worked with their groups to create their performances over zoom and managed to get their performances together with very limited face-to-face rehearsal time. On the day, the students rose to the occasion and performed to a very high standard, despite missing the buzz from the audience.

The students should be incredibly proud of their achievements; I certainly am.

Miss Calabria would like to thank Mr Segrave and Mr Le Brocque for their ongoing support and our lighting technicians from Year 10 Charlie O’Sullivan and Harrison Smith.
