Acting Principal – St John's Footscray

What a happy time it is at St John's as we welcome our children back onsite. So far there has been a mixture of excitement at seeing friends again as well as some nerves about getting back into a school routine. Our team is working hard to ensure that children are feeling safe, secure and happy. Below you will see numerous updates/events for the coming week or two. Please also note that we have been advised that St John's is eligible for the government rollout of air purifiers. It appears that they will be sent to hot spot areas first so it may be many weeks before they are installed in our school. A shade sail grant application will also be submitted soon.

  • Grandparents or Special Person day is on Friday 29th of October. Through our Gathering Times, our children will be invited to reflect on all the ways that their grandparents and other special people have impacted their lives. Our Hub educators will provide a selection of optional experiences for the children to participate in through the Weekly Activity Grid. We will also share a reflection video, which we invite the children to watch together with their families.
  • OSHClub will be available for our School Closure Day on the Monday 1st of November and is open for bookings now. However, please note that the service will run pending minimum booking numbers.
  • A friendly reminder that all children, who are attending school onsite need to wear a school hat to protect their face, neck and ears when outdoors. Children who are not wearing hats will be asked to play in an area protected by the sun. Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen in their school bags to apply before recess and lunch time.
  • Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, we have had to cancel our school photos with Advanced Photography. However, one of our talented educators has kindly offered to take photos of each Hub, and will provide digital copies to families. We will provide more details in the coming weeks.
  • We have had minimal response in regards to having an online community trivia night and understand that we would much rather have this event take place onsite and in person.  If this becomes a possibility later in the term we will put plans in place to organise this.

As previously advised Lauren Davis will be Acting Principal and Chevon Adamidis will be Acting Deputy Principal from Monday 1st November. Emily Conroy will commence as Principal in Jan 2022, please see our updated staff page on our website for an introduction from Emily.

Finally as I prepare to move to my new school next Friday, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the St John's community, from the incredibly dedicated staff, to the welcoming families and wonderful children, it truly is a community like no other. I feel very fortunate to have experienced four years of leading, learning and light in this place. Thank you for making this so much more than a job, it has been a pleasure to be with you all.

Best wishes as you continue to thrive as a learning community.
