Latest News and Reminders

Can I please draw your attention to the final page of this newsletter. At this point in time it may feel difficult to connect with the wider community and those not in your immediate family and/or school or work groups. Please remember that there are fabulous things happening with our local libraries, museums, universities, TAFEs, zoos and art galleries. Many country towns and city venues are showcasing events online with some wonderful musical events also available. There are virtual tours of countries and road trips. There are wonderful blogs and videos being produced and free ebooks. If you google "what free entertainment is available during lockdown?" there is an array of ideas.

As our Year 12s have been considering their 2022 pathway; be it to work, university, TAFE, apprenticeships or a gap year (maybe for long awaited travel!) I was delighted to receive some update emails from two of our recent alumni. Joanna Guelas (Class of 2019) is the 2022 News Editor of Australia's oldest running student publication, Farrago, at University of Melbourne. She was also the recipient of the Principal's Scholarship to Uni of Melb in Year 12. We may see her in journalistic or political circles in the future! Bethany Forster (Class of 2019) is studying film and television and is certainly making a mark for herself. She was lucky enough to gain a role on a film set as the head of sound. The film is due to be released early in 2022. She is also concentrating on qualifying for the swimming nationals and the Commonwealth Games. More recently she has been accepted into an internship program and will (when it is possible) be travelling to California for six week to work in the film and television industry.

Closer to home, we wish our Year 12 VCE students all the very best with their approaching exams and, to the Year 12 VCAL students, who are also looking forward to higher education and work placements, we congratulate you for completing a year that had its own difficulties, especially regarding the lack of work placements and, for some, access to VET courses during remote learning.

Wishing everyone all the very best for the next two weeks. Keep safe.
