Library

Spring into stories - here to help you.

With access to libraries - whether here at school or our local libraries - limited we find accessing good stories that much harder. There are always ways around an obstacle and ESL-Bits offers us a solution to this one.

The free website ESL-Bits.net found at http://esl-bits.net/ not only has classic novels like Pride and Prejudice, War and Peace, and modern classics such as Catcher in the Rye, Farenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies but also lots of Young Adult favorites.

The great thing about this site is that it has the full text plus the option of someone to read it to you.

For myself I am already imagining sitting outside, enjoying the beautiful Spring sunshine and listening to some of my favorite novels as well as discovering some new ones.  We have put together just a few of the Young Adult offerings we think you might like below, but explore the site for yourself to find all the other great reads.

The Hunger Games

Looking for Alaska

Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The Messenger

Holes

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

The Perks of being a Wallflower

BorrowBox

BorrowBox is a service provided by most local libraries.  It provides eAudiobooks and eBooks to all members of the Library.  Books can be downloaded onto phones and ipads and are available for up to three weeks. You need to install an app on these devices, where books that are borrowed are accessed and you’ll need a library membership number to login.

This service is free.  The audio books are wonderful, often voiced  by actors who give the books a meaning  and depth.

Times to use BorrowBox

  • in bed late at night,
  • on your way to school,
  • when you are completing hard crafts like knitting or sewing
  • when you are exercising.
  • on a long car trip

You can also download a full text book (not audio) when you can’t get to a bookshop.
