Farewell Yr 12 Muso's

We are all sad to farewell our great bunch of Year 12s who are finishing their schooling next week. These students have been great contributors to the Music department over the past six years, many of them being instrumental in the Stage Band's great 1st and 3rd places in the Stage Band Championships in Mt Gambier in 2018 and 2019. This is certainly not the way we would have liked to farewell them and we hold out hope that we can gather together as a department before the end of the year to give them a proper send-off. We did gather last Wednesday for a photo. Well done everyone on a great six years. (photo above, name below)

Year 12 Reflections

To me, being a part of the music department over the past 6 years has truly been like finding my second family. It has been amazing to see the program and its facilities flourish from 2 classrooms and cold portables to the grand Tullow building that many students take shelter in at recess and lunch. Many people seem to forget that when you first come into high school, it’s often very lonely and intimidating to find new people. But being able to create so many long lasting friendships through the program and atmosphere of the music department has given my high school experience the extra boost of fun. I’m so thankful for all the memories shared within senior music classes, and the music department itself for serving as a crazy, but loving home through high school. a part of such a welcoming and big family in the music department has just simply been amazing. No words can describe how I feel about the music department; you could say it’s my pride and joy. I’ve met so many amazing people throughout my time at Killester College, and a lot of my friends are actually from the music department too! Music camps were definitely the highlight for me. Constantly being able to play with my fellow band members, receiving the opportunity to see and hear other remarkable bands play, wheezing together at the smallest things throughout the trips… the list goes on and on.  There are just too many fond memories I have of the music department in general as well, I can’t possibly list them all! Another interesting memory that just came to me was when I used to use band as an excuse for a lot of things in my life; one of them was telling my parents that I had to stay after school longer than anticipated because I had “band” (when in fact I only wanted to talk to my friends after band because we always had such a great time together). It has been a pleasure to be involved with the music department, and I just want to say thank you to Ms Addis, Mr Hickey and Mr Vague for supporting me throughout my musical journey at Killester College (and maybe beyond too.) Drama

Congratulations to Tahnysha Theodore who was involved in an American filming project as an extra near the end of Term 3. Tahnysha can even be seen in a photo in the Herald Sun newspaper. Well done Tahnysha, we can’t wait to see the show when it is released later this year.

If you have been involved in anything to do with performing arts outside of school, please email Miss Cronin so we can showcase and acknowledge your amazing talent and work.

On Monday I had the opportunity to film as an extra on a new American TV series 'La Brea'.  It was an early start (5:30am) and I worked with around 100 other extras, as well as the main cast.  The filming took place at Queensbridge Square in Southbank which was turned into Seattle for the show.   I was running off the bridge in the emergency scene they were filming.  I don't often do extra work due to my many other commitments, but it definitely was fun and a great experience.
