25th Anniversary

In 2021, Cecil Hills High School celebrates its 25th anniversary.  Similar to the Japan Olympics, we will hold our anniversary one year later in 2022 so we can celebrate in style when restrictions ease.

Premier's ANZAC Memorial Scholarship Tour

Congratulations to Mrs Haskett who has been selected to accompany students involved in the 2021 Premier’s ANZAC Memorial Scholarship tour.  This is a prestigious opportunity and Mrs Haskett will work with students across many schools as they tour significant historical sites across NSW for 12 days.  Students involved in this commemorative study tour will benefit from the expertise and experience that Mrs Haskett will bring to the tour.

Return to School

I’ve been very impressed with our return to school.  Students have adapted to our unusual timetable which sees restrictions on mingling between grades and staggered bell times.  There have been positives to this experience which includes faster canteen service, greater space in the playground for students, less traffic in the local area and the opportunity for students to deepen friendships within their own grade.

Table Tennis Tables

The reduced number of students in the playground has resulted in plenty of opportunities for students to use our new outdoor table tennis tables which are very popular.

Routines and Practices

As we have now returned to school, it is important for students to have high quality routines and practices that support their learning:

·         8-10 hours of sleep each night

·         no mobile phones or devices in their bedroom

·         high quality diet

·         regular exercise

·         quiet study area at home to complete homework and assessments

Cecil Hills High School Expansion and Upgrade

I am pleased to advise that the expansion and upgrade of Cecil Hills High School is being planned.  Our current task is to conduct a transport survey.  Parents and students are asked to complete this transport planning survey:

Year 12 Matters

Well done to our HSC students who have completed their first few exams.  All grades will remain at school while HSC exams are held for Year 12.  Students are able to maximise their marks by:

·         using all available time

·         checking and improving answers

·         using syllabus terminology and sophisticated language

·         answering all multiple choice questions

·         answering all aspects of the question

·         using a writing scaffold such as PEEL or ALARM

·         answering the correct option/module

Face Masks

A reminder that students are required to wear a face mask (unless an exemption applies) under the rules of the NSW Department of Education.  The school has a supply of face masks, however, students are encouraged to bring their own masks to school.  If a student does not wear a mask, their parent will be contacted to collect them from school.

Latest COVID Advice

It is important for parents to rely on official information from the NSW Department of Education in relation to our return to school.  In terms of my introductory quote, we have a number of school practices based on the science including mask wearing, hand hygiene, vaccinations for staff, ventilation, staggering, cohorting and restrictions on activities as key safety measures.

Parent Information Sessions

Our final Parent Information Session for 2021 will be held at 6:30pm on Monday,

6 December 2021.  This will be followed by a short P&C meeting for those who wish to stay online.  Information on logging into the Zoom meeting will be emailed to parents.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.
