Flashback Friday

Who am I?

My name is Anthony Salame and I graduated from Cecil Hills High School in 2001. Writing that out just made me realise that it has been 20 years!

What do I do?

I’m a stand up comedian who also has worked in television and radio.

It probably isn't a surprise to any of my teachers from Cecil Hills High School that I ended up doing comedy/entertainment. They would be the first to tell you that I would never shut up!  I was always trying to crack a joke in class (apparently that's not the right time).  And as an ex-student who never did their homework, it makes sense I went in to a profession where I don’t have to work more than an hour a night.

Achievements

I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world doing what I do. I have toured the USA, Canada, Europe and all over Australia making people laugh.  It truly has been a blessing.

I’ve worked with comedians such as Jo Koy, Jimmy Carr, Bill Burr, Ronny Chieng,

Jim Jeffries and many more.  I’ve been fortunate to play at the Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festivals as well as the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, Canada.

I’ve been on TV shows such as Fat Pizza, Swift and Shift Couriers, Legally Brown, The Footy Show and a few others.

In 2013 I was offered to host a breakfast radio show overseas for Virgin Radio, and before you ask did I meet Richard Branson… yes, I had to interview him on my first ever show on air!  I think he tried to fire me on air several times… just like many times the teachers at school threatened me with detention. The difference is, I actually had to do the detention.

Some of the cool people I got to interview and meet were Salma Hayek, Katy Perry, Lana Del Ray, One Republic and so many more.  To be honest all that pop stuff sounds the same to me......hahaha, however, my favourite artist I’ve met is The Weeknd - he’s a really good guy!

I worked on radio until 2019 and then returned back to Australia to be back home with the family and to continue my career in stand-up comedy, television and radio.

My time at Cecil Hills High School

It’s easy to say some of the best memories of my life were made on those school grounds, as well as some of the best friendships I've ever made -  I still have these friends until this day  -  all made at Cecil Hills High School.

I started at Cecil Hills High School in Year 9, coming from another school and it was the best decision I could have made.   Not sure how many of my teachers are still there but Miss Liu, Miss Hennessy, Miss Dobak, Mr Alfonsi (yeah the Fonz!) were all great! And there were many more.   It was 20 years ago, give me a break!

Words of Wisdom

If I have one piece of advice for the students of today, cherish your high school years.

It may sound cliche and you’ve heard it a million times, but that must mean there’s truth to it.  If one person says you farted, it could be questionable.  But if the whole room says you farted, you probably did.  Not sure if that analogy got the message across, but all I’m trying to say is ENJOY YOUR TIME AND DON’T STRESS!!!! It’s all going to be fine.   God bless.

And hey… invite me back sometime will ya…....... I know I got a lot of detentions but come on!

Where can you find me?

I’m not the most active on social media, but I do use instagram @anthonysalame

This is a photo of me with my best mates - who I met at Cecil Hills High School. We continue to be best mates until this day.

This is me on stage at my favourite theatre in the world  -  the Enmore Theatre for the Sydney Comedy Festival.
