Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Congratulations on 20 years!

You may not know, but the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program started out in a single school back in 2001 at Collingwood College. A committed team joined Stephanie Alexander to set up the program which then became a template of sorts for schools and services across the country. No kitchen garden is the same of course, but what lies at the heart – always – is children, their enthusiasm, and the communities that gather around them.

Since then, the Kitchen Garden Program has grown into a strong and vibrant community. We’re currently inspiring and supporting over 1600 schools and early childhood services across Australia to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal, delicious food.

Teesdale Primary School has been a proud member since 2007. We continue to see the benefits of this program in our school and appreciate the support we receive from our families each year through the Kitchen Garden Levy. Without this support, the program could not run.

Garden Update

The 3/4 students have really enjoyed being back in the kitchen and garden the past week. Fresh rhubarb, kale, potatoes, and purple cabbage were harvested and used to make a delicious potato salad and turnovers for dessert. The students have been weeding, watering, and mulching in the kitchen garden but also throughout the school. Emily and Abigail can be seen planting bluebell bulbs under the olive trees, and Campbell is taking care of our broad beans in the centre of the garden. All of 3/4’s worked really hard to repaint the fence and it looks fantastic. A special thanks to Stacey for taking one of our chickens home, she appears to be a bit unwell, she will return once she has had a bit of R and R.
