Mr Irwin's Message

Mr. Irwin's Message

Hi Families and welcome to this week’s newsletter.

It’s so wonderful to have all students back on site at school. Over the next few weeks as restrictions ease school is going to look more and more like it should, and I’m excited to report we’re expecting to hear that the activities we’d normally conduct in term four as part of school life will all run in some capacity.

Student Wellbeing

If I think back to this time last year when students returned in term four after a long period of time at home, that many students found this time difficult. At this time it’s important to consider the family routines you have that support positive engagement at school. At the start of each year I push the saying ‘Read, Eat, Sleep, Puff, Chat, Repeat’ and I think it’s worth reminding families of some simple routines you can stick to at home that have a benefit on the health and wellbeing of children.

Read, Eat, Sleep, Puff, Chat, Repeat reminds us to develop routines that allow our children to…

Read at home for enjoyment, every night! Eat the right sorts and amounts of foods that make learning easy. Sleep without distraction for 10 hours a night and not having access to screens in their bedroom. Puff from being active from exercise for at least an hour a day. Chat with their family about their learning and school day including any challenges they may face, but with a focus on being a positive discussion. Repeat and make these rituals at home not just once or twice a week but each and every day!

Combining all of these rituals as part of your family routines will have a significant impact on your child’s health and wellbeing.

What’s happening in Term 4

As I mentioned at the start of the newsletter we’re able to provide some preliminary yes/no information regarding what will be able to take place in Term 4. In each instance further advice will be emailed to families impacted regarding confirmed details of each event.

Firstly, our year 3/4 and 5/6 camps will be going ahead. I’m so pleased for these students who’ve waited patiently to attend camp, particularly our 5/6 students who had their initial date postponed. We hope you have an incredible time next week at Phillip Island. The cost of 3/4 camp for week 9 is being finalised as we speak.

Unfortunately with the time left in the year Swimming is unable to go ahead. There is no availability at the pool to host our Junior Students. Mrs. Aitken will be making contact with families shortly regarding reimbursement of swimming payments.

Our Foundation Transition will go ahead later in the term. Again, we've been given an indicative yes to this without being made aware of the logistics. However it is pleasing to know and share we will have the opportunity to welcome and involve our new families in a transition program before the year concludes.

2022 Intentions

Finally, I’d ask that as we begin to prepare for 2022 if there are any families that are aware they won’t be returning to the school next year to make it know to our admin team so we can factor this in when developing a class structure for next year. Our funding is determined by the amount of students we have so it’s important to know who won’t be returning ahead of time.

Concert Costumes

A reminder to families to please organise concert costumes as outlined in the attached document. Could all Junior School Students (F-2) please bring/wear their costumes to school on Thursday 28th of October. For year 3-6 students, please bring to school by Friday 29th October.
