VCE RETURN TO CLASSROOM

Monday 25th October was our first face to face lesson since early August. As part of our welcome back we decided as a group we would have a ‘hands on’ and group discussion lesson. We began the lesson by writing on pieces of paper something we would like to throw away from last term, it could be an attitude, behaviour, SAC result, moment. After writing them down we screwed them up and then cathartically tossed them around the room!! Students were then invited to pick up a random piece of screwed up paper that had been tossed and sit in small groups. Each student in the group then read the message on the paper they picked up and the group shared if they could relate to it or what they thought about it. It generated some great discussion and empathy.

Our second hands on activity was Stick Rock and Leaf. Students went outside and each collected  a stick, a rock and a leaf. They returned to their groups and then spent some time thinking about the text The Kite Runner. They were then asked to think about a character, moment or plot event from the text that really stuck with them, a moment in the text that ‘rocked’ them and then a character or event that they would ‘leaf’ behind (leave). After doing this they were allocated a stick/rock or leaf moment for  speaking to the group. The students all participated really positively and shared some great moments and ideas.

Well done to the group. You were honest, engaged and empathetic. Welcome back!
