Library News

I recently came across an article about our current 2022/23 Australian Children’s Laureate Gabrielle Wang. Gabrielle has written over 20 books and as part of her two year role she is busy promoting the importance of Australian Children’s literature.

Gabrielle was recently honoured to deliver the annual Wang Gungwu Lecture, where prominent Chinese-Australians speak about their life and work as part of our Lunar New Year celebrations. The lecture is supported by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations and ABC Australia. The article stated that The Wang Gungwu Lecture provides “an enduring platform to celebrate the deep and diverse contributions of Chinese Australians to Australian society.”

The article also stated that “Gabrielle encourages her readers to see the world through someone else’s eyes and reflect on all the ways our differences make us stronger, all using the power of our imagination.”

The lecture is available at ABC iView and runs for 44 minutes.
