Year 12 News

Campbell Pallot & Nick Rigas | Year 12 Coordinators

Well done year 12 students on a great start to the year.

The year 12 team been very impressed with the work ethic shown by most Year 12 students. With 9 months to go, you have laid the foundations for what is to come. As you read this article, I would like you to think about what you want to achieve this year and what your goals are for 2023 and beyond. For most students the goal will be to get into University or TAFE in 2024.

This year is your opportunity to strive hard and achieve the score you need for your preferred course. If the ATAR you need for your first choice is 70, your goal should be 80 or above. Aim high. Working hard throughout the year with focus, determination and sacrifice will make it all worthwhile when you receive your results in December. If your goal is to gain full time employment or an apprenticeship after VCE or VCE VM then I want you to think about the skills and qualities employers are looking for. Employers want people who are enthusiastic, committed, persistent and reliable.  Actively work on enhancing these attributes in 2023.

Demonstrate passion in your studies by working hard and always doing your best. However, no matter what your goal is in 2023, I encourage you all to look after yourself. Your mental and physical health is very important. Make sure you get the balance right between study, work and play. If you need help, please ask. Hamish Roberts, our Student Wellbeing Officer is here to help you. Remember all of us in the year 12 team are here to help and support you. Good luck for the rest of 2023.

MOBILE PHONES

Year 12 students please make sure that your mobile phone is kept in your locker during school hours. If you urgently need to make a phone call please come to the Year 12 office and see Mr. Pallot or Mr. Rigas who will arrange for you to use a phone.

ABSENCES

A reminder that if your child is absent, we request that you contact the school either via

the Absence Hotline 5381 7200, the Skoolbag app, email your child’s homeroom teacher

or bring a signed note to give to homeroom teacher.

At Horsham College there is an 80% attendance requirement for all VCE classes excepting approved absences.  That means a student needs to attend at least 80% of the classes in any one unit. That is why it is extremely important to get any absences approved ASAP using the above methods.

Please note that students even if over the age of 18 cannot approve their own absences. All absences must be parent or guardian approved.

VCE YEAR 12 EXAMS 2023

SPECIAL EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS

If students, because of illness or disability, are unable to complete their VCE examinations in the same way or under the same conditions as other students they can apply to sit their exams under special conditions.

Special Examination Arrangements enable students to access the

examination questions and communicate their responses in a timed examination. Students are eligible for Special Examination Arrangements if it can be demonstrated that their capacity to access the examination is impaired due to:

  • Severe health impairment
  • Significant physical disability
  • Hearing impairment
  • Vision impairment
  • Learning disability
  • Severe language disorder
  • A student is a diabetic and would like to bring food, drink & medicine into their exams.

Some examples of where students have accessed Special Examination Arrangements in the past

  • A student suffers from severe migraines and will need to sit their exams in a separate darkened room and have rest breaks.
  • A student has a disability that affects the speed at which they write. The student will need more time to complete their exams.

Applications are submitted from the school and must be accompanied by recent supporting medical or other specialist reports. Some additional testing may be required. If students wish to apply for Special Examination Arrangements for 2023 they should speak with Mr Rigas as soon as possible.
