Darwinia House

What a start to 2023 we have had so far! It’s been great having all of our students back to school, looking fantastic in their uniforms (particularly the new PE kit) and ready to learn.

This year, we welcome some new people into Darwinia House, including our new Year 7s and some staff members. I was lucky enough to spend time with our Year 7s during Orientation Week and I’m pleased to say that they have taken on the Darwinia house spirit message well, checking to see that I’m wearing maroon every day. I’m looking forward to seeing this group find success throughout their years at Dandenong High School and their contributions to Darwinia House.

We have four new staff members who have joined us at the start of the year and we are very happy to have welcomed them into the staff room. Ms Pan, Mr Nguyen and Ms Wang are joining us to teach in the Maths and Science area along with Ms Tough to teach in the English and Humanities Domain. If you haven’t already met them, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.

Our House Captains for this year are Irtika and Tiba and they are both keen to work with students and staff in the best house to get the most out of their school life. They will be working closely with the House Leadership Team and Student Representative Council members to ensure students are at the centre of all decisions made at the school and in Darwinia. The SRC elections are currently underway, with voting concluding around the time of publication. Congratulations to all nominees and I look forward to working with you all this year.

The final introduction for this year is Ms Aitkin, who is joining the Darwinia House Leadership Team as our Student Engagement Coordinator. She has already introduced herself to all year levels and is enthusiastic about working with you all. She is one of the original Darwinians and we are very lucky to have her expertise and enthusiasm back in the House.

Mrs Bell and I are very much looking forward to seeing the successes that we can achieve throughout this year, particularly in House competitions. Student agency is our focus for this year, making sure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in their own way, taking control of their learning. We would certainly like to see DarWINia perform well at the upcoming Swimming Carnival, but also maintain focus on learning and growth this year. We have had a great start to the year and look forward to maintaining this momentum with the help of all students.
