Hakea House

It is my privilege to welcome both our returning and new students to Hakea House for 2023. I trust the year will be filled with learning, fun and success across all endeavours. I would like to welcome in particular our Year 7 group to Hakea and in getting to know them, they are a fantastic group of young people who are keen to learn and are adjusting well to a much larger school.

Our senior students have begun the year well as they embark on their senior studies and I wish them success this year, especially out Year 12 Hakea students. I would like to congratulate also Peter MK in joining the Year 12 Student Leadership Team as one of the Presidents of the Student Representative Council and to Ruchini R and Ben L in their appointment as the Hakea House Captains for 2023. I look forward to working and learning from them in making Hakea House a fantastic community and in sharing their voice on behalf of the students.

The students have begun nominating their Student Representative Council (SRC) nominees for their classes and I look forward to congratulating them officially at the Dandenong High School Badges Assembly. The Dandenong High School Swimming Sports are coming up on Friday February 24th February and it is encouraging to see the number of students signing up to participate. I look forward to cheering on Hakea on what should be a great day.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate Ruba T of Year 10 Hakea who along with other STEM students spoke eloquently and with passion about their love of STEM at the opening of the new Dandenong High School Design Centre on Monday February 13th. Ruba had the honour of talking about her passion for STEM in front of two Victorian Parliament Ministers, the Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins MP and the Member for Dandenong, Gabrielle Williams MP along with other guests at the opening. Well done to Ruba in not only representing Hakea, but also Dandenong High School.

As this is the first newsletter for 2023, I wish all Hakea students a productive, successful and rewarding year ahead.
