This Monday, we had lots of fun learning about Aboriginal games. One of the games was called Bunjil's Nest, in this game you are sorted into four groups, then you have to try to collect an object from the nest in the middle without being tagged by Bunjil. Bunjil is a volunteer in the middle. One object may be worth 1 point, another may be 2, another 3 and another 5, the team with the most points wins.

Another game we played was a game where the instructor had to choose two people to be the hunters, they had to try and tag the fish in the pond (the other people playing are the fish and there are cones in a rectangle for the pond) with a soft ball, the twist was that the hunters couldn’t move with the ball in their hands, it was a fun game and was very strategic.

Another thing we did sport related was the boomerang throwing. One student who had the best kookaburra laugh was allowed to throw one which was Michael Conron in Year 6. The instructor threw the boomarang and it came back a mile. It was so cool!

We had a fantastic Indigenous incursion on Monday the 13th February. We felt that at the start the smoking ceremony was beautiful as we cleared any negative energy from the land. We have been exploring the last 50,000 years of this land in class and represented it on a timeline. The time since European settlement is only 235 years, which takes up just a tiny part of our timeline!

The Wurundjeri people and Boon Wurrung spoke Woi Wurrung. We learnt a lot about language like the real name of the didgeridoo; the Yidaki!

It was amazing learning about Bunjil the eagle, he created the land and all things on earth and then he went up into the sky and became a star with all of his family!

On Monday, the whole school had an indigenous incursion. It was amazing because we learned lots about the Aboriginal  and Torres Strait Islander culture.

That was very interesting!

We also learned about some art symbols the indigenous people use. So it was very important to learn about their art and culture since it meant something to them.

Another thing we found interesting was an aboriginal song that came from their language.

We told our stories that had once happened to us at camp or anywhere in the wild out of art with indigenous symbols.

Art was a way of telling stories to others before books were made, making art very important in their culture by using symbols they use for art and the words they use.
