Ministry and Care

Chaplain Joshua Hauser

You may be aware that the Church is entering into a period called Lent. Lent is a period of forty days leading up to Easter Sunday. It is a time of reflection, self-examination, and spiritual discipline for Christians around the world. During Lent, Christians are encouraged to fast, pray, and give to those in need as they prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You may have noticed this week that the students have had a cross on their hand or forehead, this was done at Chapel and is an act that has occurred for centuries. It is done as a reminder that we have all done wrong things in our life and that we need God.  In the book of Matthew, Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24) From this a lot of people will “deny” themselves something pleasurable, like chocolate, red meat, social media or coffee so we can instead focus on Christ.

So as we prepare for Easter, let us remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and the forgiveness that is available to us through faith in Him. Let us also use this time to turn away from sin, serve others, and draw closer to God.

Have a blessed week
