Principal's Update

Welcome to the first edition of King's News for 2023. Watch the video below to hear an update from our Principal.

2023 Commencement Service

Our 2023 Commencement Service will be held on Wednesday 15th February at 7PM in the College Auditorium. The Commencement Service is an opportunity for us to give thanks to the Lord at the start of the school year and pray for the year ahead. We will also be inducting student leaders including School Captains and House Captains for 2023.  As this is a whole school event, all families are encouraged to attend. Students are expected to attend and be in full school uniform.

Due to the limited capacity of the Auditorium, parents and students will need to book a seat (at no cost) on Trybooking using the following link: www.trybooking.com/CFPOY

There will be reserved seating for students who are being inducted as leaders, however parents of these students will need to book seats on Trybooking. We look forward to seeing you there.

Introducing our New Staff for 2023

Nicholas Bergagard

I am Nicholas Bergagard, not only a new staff member to King's but also a new resident to  Warrnambool. My wife and I moved to Victoria from Brisbane, QLD last year and early this year to Warrnambool. Though this will be my first full-time teaching experience, I have spent the last year and a half working as a relief teacher, gaining experience in a wide variety of classroom contexts. When not teaching senior school, you could find me reading novels or taking a nice walk along the beach... or better yet, reading a novel on the beach.

Joseph Dunning

I have joined King's Learning Support team this year for two days per week. I'm passionate about high quality education from a Christian worldview and am glad to be a part of the team. I am married to Jacki, who is a Paediatric Registrar at the Warrnambool Base Hospital. Together we have four children: Joey (7), Letty (5), Shelly (2) and Margy (4 months). When not at King's, I am busy with my Accounting business and parenting duties. For fun I enjoy playing basketball, running and road-trips.

Alissa Griffin

Hi, my name is Alissa Griffin and I’m so excited to be teaching Year 2 this year! I’m lucky enough to work with my Dad, Stephen Griffin (Year 4 Teacher and Assistant Head of Junior School), and my younger Sister, Paige Griffin (Learning Support). My Brother Zac is also a Year 11 student at King’s and one of this year’s School Captains. I love being a part of the Gateway Church family, and I have previously worked at the Capitol Cinema Warrnambool for the last seven years as a manager. As my class knows, I love all things Disney and dogs. I am very keen for the year ahead, to be able to share about God, and learn and grow together!

Julie James

I have found King's College to be a heart-warming and inspiring community of both caring and talented people so I am smiling big-time at the opportunity to join its faculty in the role of Learning Enhancement Coordinator. Born in Akron, Ohio in the US, my travel adventures started in university with a year abroad in Madrid, Spain. Following that I worked at the American School of Kuwait, the Jakarta International School, and the International School of Kuala Lumpur as both an English teacher and a learning program coordinator. I am loving Warrnambool - people are friendly, the ocean is magnificent, and after decades of tropical humidity, I actually like the brisk weather here and, believe it or not, the wind!

Kelly Philpot

I am very new to the role of Learning Support which I am excited to be doing for two days a week and very grateful to be able to do it during Kinder hours. I have a speech pathology background and worked at South West Healthcare for 11 years before having my two children. Working in education is new to me and I am already learning so much. I enjoy singing and indulging in eating yummy chocolate.

Ricky Tinetti

Following the completion of my Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours), I moved to Warrnambool in 2017 with my wife, Jess. I am very passionate about seeing young people develop their individual walk with God. Most of my spare time is devoted to volunteering at my local church, where I lead both the youth team and the technology team. I also enjoy fishing, boating and spending time with my family when I’m not completing church-related activities.

Having recently completed my Master of Teaching with Deakin University, I am excited about commencing my new role with King's College. As both a teacher and a parent I am thankful that a Christian school exists in Warrnambool. I am looking forward to assisting students to develop the skills they need to be successful individuals and providing education from a Christian perspective. Classes I will be teaching include: Year 8 Science (8T), Year 8 Health/PE, Year 10 Mathematics, Year 10 Science and Unit 1&2 Biology. I am also one of the Year 8 Home Room teachers.

School Renovations

At the end of 2023 we started works on the front of the school. We removed one tree which had been causing trouble by lifting up all the paving. We have had some more drainage installed to prevent flooding and concreted the front entrance. We had a last minute decision to install two garden beds at the entrance, and it now all looks amazing. Thanks to the Team at Forever Concrete for all their hard work and being so accommodating to fit in the Garden beds as well.

Learn to Play Bag Pipes & Snare Drum

We are welcoming enquiries from students aged 8 and up who are interested in learning Bag Pipes or the Snare Drum, this is in conjunction with the Warrnambool Pipes and Drums Band. There are no tuition fees incurred as the Warrnambool Pipe Major and Drum Major come to school each week to tutor students for a 20 minute lesson during school hours.

To begin learning to play pipes or drums, there is a purchase fee of $85 for a chanter (pipes) or $100 for drumsticks and a drum pad. This cost also includes the tuition book. Once competent (usually after 18 months), many Pipes and Drums students compete in competitions at state, national and international levels. We can provide further information once this staged is reached.
