Well done to our amazing preps on starting their school journey. The first week has been a real learning experience for everyone. Students have been exposed to routines and learnings in various subjects. In the start Up program, we have established rules, a sense of belonging and introduced our school values, Rights, Respect, Resilience and Relationships.
So far, the best things about prep are…
“Maths because I just do it” Banksy.
“Drawing because that’s what I am going to be when I grow up” Eva.
“Playing and doing art because I love doing stuff with them” Matilda.
“Playing on the playground” Mitch.
“Reading because some of them are funny and some of them are interesting” Zainab.
“Playing” Benjamin.
“Playing Barbies because I have a colour changing one when I put it in the water” Ahaana.
“Playing play dough because I love to make elephants” Johnathan.
We are looking forward to sharing more fun things with you throughout the year.
The Prep Team
The year 1 students have settled into a brand-new school year. The first few days were spent taking part in the Start Up program, where we visited the expectations in the classroom when reading, writing and using maths equipment. Students have started to build relationships with their year 1 teachers and their classmates. The School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix has been reintroduced to the students and families will notice that awards are being achieved and sent home. Students are receiving these awards when they demonstrate certain positive behaviours out in the yard and other areas of the school.
Year 1 students have started to take home readers on a daily basis. Year 1 students are expected to read for 15 minutes each night. They are beginning to gain more independence when choosing their books to read at home. These books may be a Just right book and sometimes, words may be a bit more challenging. Reading at home should be an enjoyable part of your child’s learning. More news about homework will follow in due course.

The Year 1 Teachers
Dear Year Two Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Year 2 2023. The students have settled in with their new teachers and have had a positive start to the year. In the first week of school, we looked the expectations of being a member of the Brookside community. We did this by revising the Brookside 4 R’s of Respect, Resilience, Rights and Relationships and how they work inside and outside of the classroom, the school wide positive behaviour support matrix and classroom routines and expectations.
Students were excited to be reminded of the 4 R superstar award system which supports positive behaviours and have already begun to earn awards.
All classes worked together with their teacher to create a mission statement which outlines what is important to the students with both their learning and together and the social aspect of their classrooms. These mission statements are attached here for you to see.
We look forward to working together to create a positive and supportive environment for our Year Two students and Parents throughout the year.
"In 2A we promise to not make our room messy. We promise to keep our noise level down. We promise to put things in the right place. We promise to make safe choices like saying goodbye at home time and pushing our chairs in. We promise not to use bad words in class. We promise to respect each other and our teacher and be ready to listen and learn".
Please remember that if you have any questions don’t hesitate to see your child’s classroom teacher.
