PnC News

Hello! The PnC would like to welcome all new and returning families to MPS for 2023.

About the PnCWhat is the PnC?

The Parents and Carers Committee (PnC) is a branch of the School Council. It is made up of volunteer parents and carers from the school community as well as one representative from the elected School Council.

What does the PnC do?

The PnC assists the School Council by organising fundraising and 'friend-raising' activities for our school community throughout the year. Events include:

  • BBQs and whole school breakfasts
  • Coffee mornings
  • Co-ops & bulk-buys
  • Comedy & trivia nights
  • Mother's & Father's Day gifts stall & raffle
  • Celebrations for Eid and International Women's Day

Why does our school need to fundraise?

Federal and state funding for government primary schools is based on factors such as the location of the school, the number of students enrolled, and the estimated income of families.

However, these funds only provide a base level of resources and opportunities for our kids.

All PnC fundraising efforts directly benefit the school community and our kids' experiences at school.

To make MPS the best school it can be, over the years, PnC Fundraising has contributed to projects such as:

  • Quality home reader & library books
  • Playground upgrades
  • New sports equipment
  • Psychology and speech pathology staff
  • New/upgraded classrooms and resources

Why and how to get involved

Official positions on the PnC are elected by the committee every year, but any MPS parent or carer can attend a PnC meeting. The committee meets monthly at school to plan events and generate ideas. All MPS parents and carers are invited to attend meetings, suggest events or fundraising opportunities, or assist at an event.

Our school relies on volunteers to make it a great place for kids and their families. All offers of help make a difference, and we always welcome new faces and new ideas!

We understand life with kids is busy, which is why we offer a range of ways to volunteer for those who are interested. Every little bit helps.

Ways you could get involved include:

  • Cook or serve at a BBQ
  • Make coffee at a coffee morning
  • Bake for a fundraising event
  • Donate to a hamper/raffle
  • Help with setup or packup at an event
  • Graphic design or grant writing
  • Share your ideas at a meeting

Benefits of volunteering at school

  • Meet other parents and make friends
  • Learn new skills
  • Have a say in how the school operates
  • Make MPS a great school for everyone
  • Be part of the local community
  • Set a good example for the kids
  • Get that 'volunteer glow'!

Coffee Morning

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed a brew and a chat at our Coffee Morning today. And a big thanks as always to George, our expert barista, as well as Gary, Andrew, Becs, Jacqui, Claire and Tamie for assisting.

If you would like to learn (or brush up on) barista skills in a friendly and supportive environment, we welcome any volunteers to learn the ropes at our next Coffee Morning. Keep an eye out for communication about our next Coffee Morning soon.

Communication about PnC events

The PnC promotes its events via the WhatsApp and Facebook groups, posters around the school, in the newsletter, and via Compass. Not all school events are run by the PnC and all communication for PnC events is done by parent volunteers.

WhatsApp and Facebook groups

The PnC facilitates WhatsApp groups for grade levels, and a Facebook Group for the whole school community, to help connect our community online. There is also a private Facebook Group for parents and carers of neurodiverse students.

These groups are run by parents and not affiliated or overseen by the school or its leadership. You can view the terms of these groups here: https://tinyurl.com/4699e963

If you would like to join the Facebook Group or your child’s year level WhatsApp group, please SMS Tess on 0419280282.

First PnC meeting for the year

Our first meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, 21 February, 7-8pm in the school library. This will be a social event and light refreshments will be served. All parents and carers are invited to attend. Entry is via the office.

As always, we recognise that not all parents and carers have the capacity to volunteer or donate to our fundraising efforts. We welcome all efforts, not matter how small. If you are interested in helping our school in a way that suits you, or you have a fundraising or social event idea, you can email us any time at morelandps.pnc@gmail.com
