Through Getting Ready to Learn, our students are being taught strategies that can help them to become Present, Centred and mindful in a moment, supporting them to be Ready to Learn.
Mindfulness is about being present in the moment in your mind and being focused on the here and now. This can be really helpful when children are transitioning into a time where they need to focus on their learning or they need a strategy to help calm down.
One mindfulness strategy is to become mindful of each of your five senses. We can ask the children to close their eyes and notice:
- One thing you can see
- One thing you can smell
- One thing you can hear
- One thing you can taste
- One thing you can touch/feel
You might like to try this yourself and notice how it makes you feel or practise with your child in a moment where you would like them to become calm and to focus.
