Hannah Carter awarded prestigious scholarship

We are thrilled to announce that Hannah Carter, a Secondary English Teacher at the College, has been named as a recipient of the Phil Page TATE Scholarship for 2023.

The scholarship will cover Hannah's attendance at the AATE/ALEA national English and literacy conference, to be held from 1-4 July in Canberra.

The conference will bring together educators, academics, leaders and authors to explore the role English and literacy plays in empowering learners and the teaching profession.

Congratulations to Hannah on this well-deserved achievement and exciting opportunity. We look forward to her report!

In search of safety

At the end of Term 1, speakers from Red Cross were welcomed into the Year 8 English classes to give a presentation about refugees and seekers of asylum.

We were fortunate to hear the personal story of Arad Nik-Seraf, a former refugee who fled his home at a young age to seek refuge in Tasmania.

Listen to Arad's story via the ABC Hobart Radio broadcast here

The sessions, which were delivered as part of our English unit —'Strangers in a strange land', were informative and encouraged the students to empathise with the plight of millions of displaced people who exist in the world through no fault of their own.
