Proud to be Loreto

Two very exciting events occurred at Loreto last Sunday. The first was our annual Ladies Lunch organised by our P&F. This event not only brings our community together across the College but most importantly, it celebrates Loreto women. Our guest speaker on Sunday was Old Scholar and ex-Boarder, Amelia Nolan who is the Managing Director of Alkina Wines in the Barossa Valley. Amelia was interviewed by fellow Loreto Old Scholar, ex-Boarder, award-winning journalist and news presenter, Jessica Adamson. From beginning to end we were mesmerised by Amelia’s story of courage, resilience, passion, and amazing business acumen, a journey that has led her to be one of the most revered wine makers in Australia. Amelia reflected on her time at Loreto as important in her formation and in particular the building of resilience and independence through her Boarding experience. The lifelong friendships that were also forged during this time were beautiful to witness on the day. We could not have been prouder of both Amelia and Jessica as Old Scholars of Loreto, both are such beautiful examples of what Mary Ward meant when she said, ‘women, in time to come, will do much’ and much they continue to do.

The second event held on Sunday was the opening of the Chinese Community School by the Minister of Education Training and Skills, The Hon. Blair Boyer MP. This is a new and exciting partnership between Loreto College and the Chinese Community School. Under this partnership, Loreto College will be the host for the Chinese Community School where classes will operate across Saturday and Sunday for students in the study of Chinese language and culture, this presents an exciting as well as convenient opportunity for our students as well as other families outside of the College.
