DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS CATHERINE HOWISON - DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Pastoral Care

This week our students enjoyed a range of House based activities which culminated in a shared lunch. Our Pastoral Care program is a wonderful part of the school experience for our students. It promotes belonging, social interaction and personal and social development. Our House Leaders put a great deal of thought and planning into the activities, well supported by Homeroom Teachers. Whilst every school cares for their students, our Vertical Pastoral Care system provides a unique framework that supports students and encourages them to find their place by developing strong relationships with not only their peers but also students who are either younger or older than them. Each Homeroom operates as a little ‘family’ with different personalities, strengths and characteristics. At St Mary MacKillop College we really value this community arrangement. Our next Pastoral Care session will be on the 25th of May and has a Pathways focus. Each House will have guest speakers, past students who have chosen different pathways will be sharing their experiences with their ‘old’ House. They will speak about their time at St Mary MacKillop College, their subject pathway here and also what they have been doing since leaving school. Each student has a different story to tell and some very good advice and inspiration to share. This is sure to be a wonderful experience and it is always exciting to have past students visit us.

Uniform reminders

Our students seem to be enjoying the flexibility of our new uniform options, especially now that we are seeing more variation in temperatures. A reminder that students should only be wearing the school beanie with our uniform. These are available from the Front Office and we have more on order to make sure we have plenty available as the days become colder.

We are seeing a number of students wearing coloured t-shirts under their shirts, or long sleeved t-shirts under their polo shirts or dresses. A reminder that this is not part of the uniform and students will be asked to remove these. There are long sleeved options for extra warmth, school jumpers and jackets plus the PE rugby top to wear with the PE uniform.
