ANZAC Services 2023

Well done to all families, community members, staff and students who were involved in the 2023 ANZAC services last week. We had representatives attend all of the following services: 6 a.m. Wedderburn Soldiers Memorial Park, 9:30 a.m. Korong Vale, 11 a.m. Wedderburn RSL: 11 a.m. Inglewood  RSL Memorial  and Wednesday 26th April School Service K.L.C. (first day back).  All school leaders had the opportunity to be actively involved in the services. We thank the local RSL branches and community groups for allowing us to be involved and participate.

School Fete - what an Extravaganza

What a great way to finish the school term with an amazing turn out for the annual school fete.  With our largest crowd on record we had a sensational day filled with activities.  We would like to thank all staff, students, parents, stall holders and the wider community for turning up to support of the fete.  Well done everybody there was a very positive vibe in place throughout the day.  My highlight was the donation of 198 Easter eggs for the mega raffle with 20 prizes.  The inflatables were once again a hug hit, thanks to Ben and his team from 'The Zone' in Bendigo and Leonie and her team from 'Its Party Time' in Shepparton.   Thanks to the Inglewood, Bridgewater and Tarnagulla schools for attending also. We really appreciate everybody for doing their bit and supporting Wedderburn College and the School Easter Fete.

Year 9 Camp

A huge thank you and well done to Miss Van De Wetering and Miss Herrington who organised and participated in the Year 9 Camp to the Granites.   Despite the rain delayed start we enjoyed an amazing experience.   The students used the tangias to cook spaghetti bolognaise from scratch, pancakes, boil water to make tea and melt marshmallows to make  special 's'mores' for desert.   The students slept in swags, enjoyed exploring the National Park as well as a five kilometre night walk.  This was the first trial camp for the big adventurous journey to be held later in the year for the Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Program.  The next big Year 9 adventure will be Snow Camp at the start of Term 3.

Cross Country Results

On Monday morning we came together as a school community to participate in our annual House (Ansett V Jacka) Cross Country event . Congratulations to students from Year 5/6 A and Year 8 homerooms who all came to school, participated and wore their house colours. You have all won a free school lunch.

A huge thanks must go to our PE Teachers Emma Milne, Ben Pettifer and their assistants for organising the event.  Thanks to all staff who assisted on the day, the families for coming along and cheering and finally the students for running with effort every step of the way.  Jacka won the day and have set the bar high for Ansett to stop a Yellow clean sweep on Athletics day.   Thanks also to the BBQ crew for a delicious BBQ lunch!

Time in Lieu

You may have heard recently about the 'Time in Lieu' situation in schools where a large number of schools are cancelling or postponing out of hours events such as school camps.  Time in Lieu is time accrued by staff who work on extra activities outside normal working hours.  Our staff continue, as they have always done, to put the students first and have agreed to continue to work on school camps, excursions and provide all students with extra experiences.  We have not missed a school camp or major event in the last two years and we have no intention to change.   I personally want to thank the ongoing commitment of our staff and the students for doing the right things and showing appreciation/gratitude for these opportunities that they are afforded.    I will continue to work with our staff as we try to implement the new staffing agreement that has commenced so that it is fair on all stakeholders.
