Thornbury History Group
Did you know our school has an active history group? The group meets regularly collating and documenting all kinds of memorabilia about our school. Do you have anything that could be included in the school archives?
The group also published a history of the school for the centenary in 2015.
You can purchase ‘School Days - Memories of Thornbury Primary 1915-2015’ at the office for just $20
It contains many anecdotes of school life over the past 100 years, including using the school as a hospital during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic, receiving the strap or cane for punishment, Jac Nasser ( former head of Ford Motor Co) being hit by a car in Hutton st then crawling out from under the car and running into school as he was running late, the introduction of Indigenous Studies and winning the girls State basketball championships in 2001 to name just a few!
