Senior Sport | Diversity Day | Term 1 Finals | Coming Up in Sport

Senior Sport

With barely a moment to settle into Term 2, it was time to warm up for Senior Sport. Thank you to the amazing staff who jumped in to get students organised and support teams. With part one of Senior Sport on Monday 1st May followed by Diversity Day on Thursday 1st May, it was a very busy week.

Diversity Day

Diversity Day is simply the opposite of the traditional sports selections and is one of the top picks on the Beachside Calendar. We nearly filled all teams only missing our Senior Girls Football (most of the team had returned from Central Australia and needed a rest). Our Netball boys did not disappoint, filling all six sides of A teams and B Teams across Senior, Intermediate and Junior Levels.

Congratulations to the Intermediate Boys A Team who were undefeated and will go on to the Southern Metro Final in August, and the B Team were also winners of their division.

Our Girl's Football, both Intermediate and Junior, won games throughout the day but were unable to defeat the top sides to get through to the next round.

Thank you to our Senior Boys who were complimented on both their uniform and their behaviour. Boys netball can be a very competitive environment and we congratulate our netballers for keeping cool heads.

Term 1 Finals

Well done to Year 7 Girls Volleyball who competed in the Southern Metro Finals on Wednesday 3rd May with both wins and losses, our girls had a great time. Thank you to Ms O'Hara for taking the team and to Ms Kennedy who went to support this great little team, on her day off.

Year 11 student and golfer, Millar competed in the Regional Interschool Sports last Thursday.  Millar came second on the day and should also be through to the state final, pending other results.  Good luck Millar!

Congratulations to our Year 8 Mixed Baseball team who on Friday 5th May, qualified for the State Final by coming Runners Up to cross-town rivals McKinnon Secondary College.

Both teams will play in the final, just as they both did last year when we won the blue winning flag. In the 2022 State Final, our then Year 7 team went on to be Runners Up in the State Final, bringing home the first State Flag to Cheltenham in a very long time. Thank you Mr Younger for your support.

On Tuesday 9th May, our Junior Lawn Bowls Team of Madison, Ethan and Ayla travelled all the way to Sunbury for the Victorian Lawn Bowls State Finals. Unfortunately, they had 1 draw and 2 losses for the day and were left empty-handed, however, the students and coach still had fun and enjoyed the experience.

Thank you so much to Mr Minster for taking the students to experience this great opportunity.

Our Intermediate Girls' Softball team went to Kingston Heath, on Tuesday 9th May, only to be washed out. This Southern Metro Final will pick up again on Tuesday 16th May.

Unfortunately our Year 8 Softball had to withdraw due to clashing with camp and our Year 7 Girls Softball will be at Kingston Heath this Friday.

Volleyball Schools Cup

Thank you to Mr Mazurek who took two teams to the Victorian Volleyball Schools Competition. This is a big event on the Volleyball calendar and our students represented the college very well. Both the Year 10 team and the Year 12 team were competitive throughout the day and walked away with a few wins against some very strong competition.
