Principal's Report

Principals Message

In Term 2 the Staughton family rose to the challenge of online learning showing a strong connection and care for each other. We found ways to be kind when people in our community needed it. We showed resilient optimism in the face of challenges and setbacks. I have no doubt we will all do this again over the coming weeks. Our core principles will be:

  • Keep it simple
  • Be consistent
  • Stay connected

My primary concern at this moment is for the health and wellbeing of staff, students and our community. Please follow safe hygiene practices and make sure you do the things that keep you physically and mentally healthy.

Face Masks

You will have heard the Premiers announcement about wearing face masks. We are expecting some information today from the Department of Education about how we work with this in our school. We will immediately communicate this when we know. It would be sensible to make sure you have face masks available for your family.

Learning and Wellbeing

As we return to online school for Years 7-10 we have taken what we have learnt from last term, including student feedback, to improve what we do. We are keeping things simple by continuing to work through Google classrooms as last time. The only alteration to this is that Year 9 elective subjects now have their own separate google classrooms. Please go to our website to find the codes for these here.

There will be two other changes:

  • We are linking attendance more strongly to learning. Previously any interaction with your teacher such as ‘Hi Mr. Lord’ counted as attendance. This time we will mark attendance by students interacting about what they are learning (e.g. completing exit tickets, baseline tests, reflection tasks, specific questions from a task, reading journals etc.). Your teacher will clearly tell you what is expected. We will keep expectations simple as we know learning from home can overwhelm some students and families. If you are struggling please let us know
  • In order to monitor and support student wellbeing a very short google ‘Weekly Check In Form’ will be sent each week on Tuesday morning. It is important that students complete this on the day so that we can monitor how they are going.
  • Remember you can always contact:

Student Free Day

Please note that there is a scheduled Student Free Day on Thursday 30th July. Staff will be working together on continuing to improve their practice via professional learning on the day. There will be no onsite or online classes on this day.

We, at Staughton College, would like to show our respect and acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated, of elders past and present. We extend a warm welcome to everyone who visits our school.
