Dear Parents/ Carers

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to Term 3. Even though we are all living in uncertain times with COVID-19, at Fairvale PS we are looking forward to a fun-filled busy term for everyone. I urge all families to download the school App, like us on Facebook to keep up-to-date with school events as well as links to our school website. A very special welcome to new families who have commenced at Fairvale PS this term. Although we are unable to host our Parent Café, new families can access support from our community liaison officer, Miss Michelle and bilingual school learning support officer, Miss Samira.

STAFF NEWS

We have commenced the term with some staff changes. Mrs Dodman has commenced her maternity leave and we wish her well as she awaits the arrival of baby #1. We also thank some additional staff, both teaching and non-teaching, who were employed during the Learning from Home, Learning from School period – these included new casual teachers and some familiar faces as well.

Some other changes are as follows:

DIRECTOR, EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP – FAIRFIELD NETWORK

We also said goodbye to our school director, Mr Scott Davidson, who has been seconded by the department for a period of 12 months. Mrs Lisa Porter will relieve in this role during this time. I am looking forward to working with Mrs Porter as well as showcasing some of the wonderful initiatives we have here at Fairvale PS.

PARACHUTING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

K-2 EALD/ NEW ARRIVALS: This last fortnight I had the pleasure of visiting some of our EAL/D learners from Kindergarten to Year 2 and 3-6 New Arrival classes. EAL/D stands for English as an Additional Language/ Dialect and at Fairvale PS we have experienced EAL/D teachers who work with many children on a daily basis. It is always such a thrill for me to visit these lessons to see the remarkable academic progress our students are making. My parachute certainly got a work-out this fortnight. Check out some photos in this edition of the newsletter.

EDUCATION WEEK

Education Week is celebrated across New South Wales next week. The theme this year is ‘Learning Together’. A flyer has been included in this edition of the newsletter and one was also sent home this week. Unfortunately, we are unable to host OPEN DAY and other events involving large groups of people, but rest assured, we will be posting lots of photos for you to see during the week. Even though the week will be a little different, teachers have planned for a wonderful week of learning.

SCIENCE WEEK 2020—DEEP BLUE: INNOVATIONS FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR OCEANS

This year Science Week will be held from Monday 17 August to Friday 21 August. The theme this year is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans. Children received information regarding the Science Project this week. This year all projects will be on display in the hall in Week 5. We hope that many children and/or families will submit a project. Projects can be individually or family designed under one of the 3 areas: Artwork, Digital Representation or a 3D model. If you need any more information, check out the school app or please speak to Mrs Tran, Mrs Buenaventura, Miss Boog, Mrs Jesusdason or Mr Pitt—Science and Technology Project Team.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS

Congratulations to the following Year 6 students who have accepted an offer of placement at a selective high school. This is an outstanding achievement and we congratulate:

I would also like to acknowledge all Year 6 students who applied for the selective class in 2021. It is a challenging assessment and I know you all did your best and I know that your family is very proud of you, regardless of the result.

FRIDAY ASSEMBLIES

As I outlined at the end of term, some activities have returned this term but unfortunately some haven’t. You will be pleased to know that Mrs Karam and I will continue to coordinate Friday morning assemblies, guided by our wonderful school leaders (who might say do most of the work). It is pleasing to see children excited to attend this special assembly. Don’t forget pictures from this assembly are uploaded to Facebook and Twitter.

STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

The most important advice I can give is that if you are sick, please stay home from school. This is the message that has been given to all staff members as well. All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same for our children and their families. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.
