Positive Education

Head of Positive Education - Emily Murcott

The Burgess Family have introduced me to an amazing idea which is quick, easy and is a real positive for the environment, helps a business and assists the economy. The Burgess family have been collecting bread tags and bottle caps from February this year. Why not? Otherwise they just go into the bin and become waste. What happens to the bread tags? Well let’s have a look…

The Burgess Family collect them and they are delivered to a collection point for the organisation, “Wheelchairs for kids”. This is a community-driven initiative whereby individuals and organisations collect bread tags to be sold to independent plastic moulding companies (Australia’s company of choice is Transmutation, located in South Australia). There, the tags are repurposed into a wide variety of products such as seedling trays, picture frames, doorknobs, coat hangers, bowls, coasters, door knobs and drawer knobs. They even get sold at Country Road! Check out the pictures below. That’s not all though – the money earned from selling the tags is used to purchase wheelchairs for people who cannot afford them. How amazing is this?

So, let’s get on board and do something which can reduce our rubbish and upcycled bread tags. Start collecting and then bring them in to the front office when school goes back and Emily Murcott will pass them onto Transmutation.

If you know of anyone in the community who has shown kindness please email the information to Emily Murcott so we can celebrate kindness in our community.

Flourishing Families - Maroondah School

Explore, learn, develop and apply wellbeing capabilities that will help your family to flourish together.

This event is free and runs from 7.30 - 9pm on the following dates:

  • Thursday 20th August
  • Thursday 10th September.

Flourishing Families is a series of 4 parent sessions, of which 2 have already occurred , which allow families within our Maroondah community to explore the key principles of Positive Education. Our staff and students across our schools continue to explore, practice and embed key concepts of Positive Education and we would like to share this common language of wellbeing. Throughout these sessions we aim to create an awareness of how Character Strengths, Mindsets, Positive Emotions and Positive Relationships can help us thrive and flourish individually and collectively. If you are only available for one session please click on the button below to reserve your seat for that particular date.

We have a wonderful opportunity for you, as parents, to learn more about Positive

Education and how you can continue to enhance your own wellbeing, as well as

support the wellbeing of your children, at home, at school and within the wider

community. These sessions will be hosted by Edwina Ricci, the Project Manager for

the Maroondah Positive Education Network.

How is Covid-19 affecting you ?

Maroondah council is currently seeking feedback from the Maroondah community on how COVID -19 is affecting you and your family. The information received will help to better understand the impacts (both positive and negative), needs, concerns and aspirations of the Maroondah community in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gathering this information and working directly with the community will assist in identifying key priorities that will help drive and shape our road to recovery. This will ensure that the supports and services that are required as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic meet the needs of our community.

Council have developed a short survey that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

The survey is available:

  • online by visiting https://yoursay.maroondah.vic.gov.au/
  • Hard copy by contacting our customer service team on 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598. A reply-paid envelope will be provided with the survey.

If you would like further information in relation to the COVID-19 Community Survey, please contact us on 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598 or by email at maroondah@maroondah.vic.gov.au
