LIVE STREAM Friday 17 July Remote Learning 2.0
We ran a live stream for the return to remote and flexible learning 2.0 while stay at home restrictions are in place. This recording can be found on the Rangeview Parents and Friends Facebook Page.
In such uncertain times, we may feel a level of anxiety and our children may feel the same way or sense this in you. While this is different from last term, there are some similarities. It was hard and most challenging at times, but there were some positives and we got through it.
Learning Packs Pick up
This went well last week. Students and families took the opportunity to walk or ride or drive to school to collect the learning packs. If you are still without these packs please contact the office to organise a pick up time.
Staff were at the gates and lots of smiles from the students keen to catch a glimpse of friends and their teachers. The school beanies ordered were a surprise extra and modelled by many of the teachers. If you still wish to purchase a beanie they are still available via www.trybooking.com/BJULE
5 Pupil Free Days Week 1
It has been an invaluable time to prepare for the next round of remote learning. Teaching staff and ES (Educational Support) staff have been able to utilise the time for professional learning in curriculum and wellbeing topics.
Onsite Remote Learning
All children should be learning from home except where they are not able to be supervised at home as no other arrangements can be made. Parents or carers need to apply for their child to attend school for supervised remote learning. This is available for children of parents who cannot work from home and any student with a disability and vulnerable children.
The students will not be in their normal classes and they will not be with their classroom teacher. They will be working on their remote learning tasks using their device with a teacher and ES staff.
If your classroom teacher is supervising they will not be as available to respond to Seesaw posts for that day. Teachers will let their students know when this is going to occur.
All students attending next week:
- Must enter from Churinga Ave, parents to park outside school grounds, and wait at the boom gate at 9am
- Parents sign their child into school at the boom gate at the entrance to the staff carpark (or wait from BSC in the hall)
- Follow protocols of hand sanitising upon arrival and appropriate hand hygiene throughout the day
- Need to be well
- Need to bring normal snacks, lunch and named drink bottle.
- Will be temperature tested upon arrival (reading of 37.5 and above and the child will not be able to attend that day)
- Wear school uniform and bring their supplies, iPad and pencil case
Health and Safety
Restricted Access – still in place with staff, approved students and essential visitors only able to be onsite
Progressive cleaning- as before
Playgrounds are open for our students to use but closed for community use
Hand hygiene- good hand hygiene practice continues
Face Masks – to be worn by the staff member taking the temperature screening, not required by students however students can wear these if they wish. Teachers are required to wear masks except while teaching.
Attendance for students at home
• Daily attendance (once a day) to be marked.
• For a student to be marked as present they need to submit a wellbeing check in and 1 piece of work at any time during that day.
• If the child has not submitted work for 3 days in a row, teachers have been advised to contact the family and discuss how we can assist
• If a child is deemed absent, the teacher will mark this as Parent Choice- School Approved.
Parents are encouraged to mark their child’s absence in Sentral using the codes of their choice - eg unwell.
Reviewed Model of Remote and Flexible Learning
The learning program delivered at home will be the same as the one at school- remote and flexible learning.
Most students identified the lack of communication with their teacher as a challenge and the loss of the social aspects of school. The children commented on enjoying working at their own pace and at different times of the day.
Taking on board this feedback the new model will be;
• A whole class WebEx meeting at least once a week
• Small group WebEx meetings throughout the week.
• Daily Schedule posted at 4pm the night before in Seesaw and /or by email.
• Schedule the activities in Seesaw in the same order as the Daily Schedule sheet with matching headings - we are trying for more clarity.
Temperature screening
Students at Rangeview will receive a temperature screen every morning before starting school while the stay at home restrictions are in place.
Temperature screening will be conducted using non-contact infrared thermometers where possible.
Temperature thresholds and required actions
Remote Library
Unfortunately, because of the level 3 restrictions around non-essential movement, we will not be offering the remote library.
Remote Learning 2.0
We are continuing to reflect on our practice and the learning of our students. We will review and modify our approach to be adaptive. We want to support our Rangeview Community in every way we can. Please continue to access our school newsletter each fortnight. We will be providing materials and resources to support families at this time.
Any concerns, please contact the classroom teachers, the school office or our school leadership.
Garden and Maintenance Person – Farewell to Mr Ian Barr
Ian Barr has handed over the keys and responsibilities for garden and general maintenance at Rangeview to our new garden guru Mr Patrick O’Neill. Patrick has started and will bring a unique set of skills to the job.
Ian Barr is pictured receiving the ceremonial shovel for a second time. I will have to add to the original engraving 2018 and now retiring in 2020.
Thank you to Ian Barr for his hard work and willingness to bring the green and order to our school with gardens, grounds and the myriad of tasks that needed Ian’s muscle and knowledge.
