THE ROAD TO EMMAUS

As the season of Easter continues, the daily and Sunday readings often recount Jesus' appearances to the disciples, and others, after His resurrection. The Road to Emmaus is perhaps one of the most famous of these stories, telling of a disciple named Cleopas and possibly his wife encountering Jesus on the seven mile road between Jerusalem and Emmaus. At first they do not recognise him, but as they open their hearts in faith - to the scriptures, to community and to the breaking of the bread - Jesus is revealed! Their sadness is transformed into Easter joy.

Jesus continues to walk with us on our personal and communal journeys.  If Jesus were walking with you, how would he respond to your stories? What would he celebrate with you? What would he challenge you on? What would he want to share with you?

God wants to take us to places that surprise us; that surpass our expectations. On the Emmaus Road, the disciples recognise the Risen Jesus over a meal. They retrace their steps “back to Jerusalem” as witnesses of hope. If we are truly paying attention, with our minds and the ear of our heart - where, this week, can we give witness by offering hope to someone else?

Sacred Heart College is committed to outreach and social justice, following the RNDM Sisters' Charism and values of Compassion and Mission. We want to support those in our community who need assistance.

Over the April school holiday period, Ukrainian families of women and children arrived in Australia as refugees of the war in Europe. Whilst many are relocating along the east coast, a small number of families have arrived in Perth, with approximately 240 families expected to be relocated here.

These families, mostly mothers and their young children, require a variety of support to enable them to relocate themselves in Australia. They require short term accommodation, food, clothing, baby items, toys, toiletries etc.

To help, we are partnering with several local agencies to assist in the care of these families.

Please do not send goods immediately as locations are yet to be decided and an appeal with required items will be put in a future Newsletter.

If you are able to assist with the short term accommodation, please contact Mrs Hywood on rhywood@sacredheart.wa.edu.au or 9246 8279.
