Principal's Report

Term 2, 2022

WELCOME

The motivation during Term 2 has been remarkable. Our students’ collective efforts, achievements, and positive attitude toward learning is to be acknowledged. I am always proud of our students who continue to impress and represent our college with pride.

Our staff have once again ensured that all students are supported by continuing to offer additional learning through a range of programs that allow our students to thrive within their schooling life.

To our families, I welcome and respect your contributions, feedback, and support. We can only accomplish the best for our students by working together as a strong community. Each day I look forward to working with you and your children.

ANNUAL OPEN NIGHT

The annual Dromana College Open Night was held on Tuesday 4th of May with all teaching and support staff present. Despite our cold Victorian weather, the event was very well attended by prospective students and their families. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and say thank you to all involved. Open Night is a fantastic opportunity to share the pride of our students and our programs with the wider community.

ANZAC DAY

Congratulations to our community on their involvement in the ANZAC celebrations. Some 400 people were in attendance at the local ANZAC commemoration breakfast held on ANZAC Day at the Dromana RSL.

Our College Captains Kyneisha Czowhan, Krystabel Forward, Melody Johnson and Francesca Montgomery alongside our senior choir and drummer Thomas Selth represented the College with pride at the Dromana ANZAC Ceremony.

Our talented choir sang ‘In Flanders Fields’ and joined Dromana Primary School in singing ‘We Are Australian’ and the ‘Australian National Anthem' - organised by Head of Music Ms Jacqui Rodden. I would like to thank all in attendance for coming together on this important day of remembrance.

NAPLAN

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all students in Years 7 and 9 who undertook the literacy and numeracy assessments in May.

I had the pleasure of supervising some of the test sessions and was incredibly proud of the dedication to personal best being exemplified by all students. Well done to all who participated, I am looking forward to celebrating your achievements with you later in the year.

DSC PRESENTS CHICAGO 'HIGH SCHOOL EDITION'

Throughout the term, our staff and students have been working on our college production. The dedication from our Arts department and support from the wider college community is greatly appreciated.  Our college performed three shows over the 8th and 9th of June of Chicago ‘High School Edition’ at the Frankston Arts Centre.  I would like to thank all involved, and congratulate our amazing students, staff and volunteers for putting on such a fabulous show.

SPORTING SUCCESS

Our college is well regarded in sports and it has again been a significant term of achievements.  I am extremely proud to announce the sporting successes of Term 2. We have won the SPD Grand Aggregate Flags for Swimming, Athletics, and Cross-Country. Alongside our overall college success, individual students have also competed in events throughout the term, bringing great pride by representing the college with excellence. Congratulations to all competitors, coaches, and parents, for all your dedication and hard work.

BUSHFIRE PREPAREDNESS

It seems strange to be discussing Bushfire preparedness in such cold weather. Dromana College BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) has been lowered which means we will most likely only close on code red days in 2022.  Works to create fire breaks in the bushland areas surrounding the college have now been completed adding an additional layer of protection to the students, staff, and visitors of the college on high-risk fire days.
