Mathematics

In Mathematics lessons at St Anthony’s, our teachers support the students' mathematical discussions using 'Maths Talks'. Maths Talks are a powerful tool for both teaching and learning. Students solve different problems and explain their methods to the class or their group. The purpose is not to find the ‘right answer’ but to share how we can find the answer.

Students are given opportunities to demonstrate their learning with the class and help others to find different solutions to problems. They are encouraged to use hands-on materials when needed and teach others to gain a better understanding for themselves.

Maths games in the classroom are also a vital tool to help students of all ages to learn new ideas and further develop their understanding of topics. Across all classes students are given the opportunity to support their developing skills with hands on learning.
