St Anthony of Padova's (Padua) Feast Day

Monday 13th June is the Feast Day of  St Anthony of Padua our Patron Saint.  He was born 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal and baptised as Fernando by his parents Martin and Mary Bulhom.  At the age of 15 Fernando joined the religious order of St Augustine to study and pray. After two years he was sent to Coimbra. He started 9 years of study, learning the Augustinian theology.

It was then that Fernando decided to become a Franciscan monk taking the name Anthony.  Anthony travelled both northern Italy and southern France extensively to preach the word of God.

Anthony was a scholar and became a theologian and received the title of “My Bishop or the Academic."

Books back in his time were rare and highly treasured. Anthony had a book that he often used for reference when teaching. One day it was stolen. St Anthony prayed that the thief would return it. His prayer was answered. The thief even eventually became a member of his religious order! This is why St Anthony is often called upon by people who are searching for lost items.

In St Anthony’s Basilica in Padova, Italy, is the tomb of St Anthony where visitors profess their devotion to him.

To honour St Anthony of Padova, the members of the Parish will come together to celebrate the Feast Day on Sunday 12 June.  Everyone is invited to join in as one community to take part in this celebration that has not taken place for the last two years due to COVID restrictions. The celebration will beginning with the Mass at 11.00am followed by Morning Tea &  Sausage Sizzle.

As a parish school it is an honour to be able to celebrate  alongside the parishioners for this festive event.

A children's choir will be formed by Ms Veronica  Blair, who is the Parish's  Coordinator Music & Catechesis, for the celebrations. If you would like your child to be part of the choir please email Ms Blair directly at veronica.blair@cam.org.au. She will practice singing with the children during lunchtimes at school.

St Anthony guide and protect us all!
