Principal's Report

Dear Families,

The last two weeks have seen many in our community affected by flu or covid. I sincerely hope that all who have been unwell are recovering and will be back with us in the coming week. Despite the challenges we have continued to provide high quality learning and care for all our students.

CURRICULUM DAY - MONDAY 23RD MAY

Last Monday we engaged in a day of self-reflection in preparation for our School Review. Staff reflected on our data sets over the last 4 years, noting the enablers and barriers in terms of meeting our targets. In addition, staff identified 4 highlights from the past 4 years. Our parent/carer community will have an opportunity next week to identify what they believe were highlights or what Kismet Park Primary School does well. There will be a survey that will go out to all parent/carers for your valued input.

EDUCATION WEEK

This week we are celebrating Education Week. The focus for Education Week this year is to celebrate a special milestone for Victoria, as we mark the 150th anniversary of public education in Victoria. Our Learning Specialists and teams have planned engaging tasks for our students to experience in honour of this milestone. In the coming week we will share experiences through our social platforms.

COVID UPDATE FOR TERM 2

We continue to practise safe covid processes as per DET guidelines. Thank you to all our parents/carers for working with us and being understanding of the changes in timetables and teachers due to illnesses. We have worked extremely hard to protect our programs despite the challenges. An example of this is that our Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) continues to run with minimal disruption.

Schools across the state are experiencing teacher shortages due to the pandemic and now the flu season. I would like to reassure all in our community that our children’s safety, happiness, and learning is our number one priority. In the event that students are sent to other grades (year levels other than their cohort) I have asked teachers to ensure work packs, at the students’ year level, are provided for students to take with them for the day.

Thank-you for your continued patience and understanding as we work through these times.

PRACTISE EVACUATION

Yesterday, as part of our Emergency Evacuation Plan and safety, we practised a whole school evacuation fire drill. These safety measures are important for us to practise in the event of an incident. Our students, supported by their teachers and our Education Support staff, did a wonderful job to get off our school site in a short space of time, following the instructions of adults. In the coming weeks we will practise more drills including a Lockdown so that our students feel safe and know what to do in the unlikely event of an incident.

OVAL WORKS

Our oval works continue, and we are seeing our oval transform slowly before our eyes. I am hoping that the builders will meet our schedule and complete the works by the first day back Term 3.

PREP 2023 SCHOOL TOURS AND INFORMATION SESSIONS

We had our first evening prep tour last Thursday, which was very well attended. Mrs Beckenham and I presented for our prospective prep parents our school programs and provided a school tour. The feedback we received was very positive from parents and I got a sense, from the feedback, that our school continues to be a well respected school within the Sunbury community.

The date remaining for our Prep Tour is:

Thursday 9/6 – 6:30pm (Evening Session)

Please remind your family and friends about our upcoming tour and our wonderful school.

Finally, I would like to thank all in our community for your resilience and positivity despite the challenges. Thank you to our staff for your professionalism and of course our students for being incredible human beings. It is a pleasure to get up every day to continue to serve our students, families, and staff.

Warmest Regards,

Kathy Cvitkovic
