From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

Our determination to be the best school for every student was strengthened through teacher professional learning focused on trauma informed practice and explicit teaching. We acknowledge that every student carries an invisible backpack, and our staff are prepared to support all students navigate the busy learning environment at Killara. In regard to our comprehensive focus on explicit teaching, our teachers are continuing to use success criteria and learning intentions to establish high academic expectations, and to model success.

Killara Academy

Killara Academy has officially commenced. This is an extra-curricular experience for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. We had medical doctor Dr Natasha Feingold, criminologist Dr Carolyn McKay, and lawyer Shriya Narul present inspirational stories to our students. Killara Academy is a university preparation program and it is aimed to showcase to students ways in which different people have demonstrated a growth mindset. On Tuesday 24 May, we have several surgeons visiting our school as part of an exciting STEM expo. Congratulations to our Killara Academy students for committing themselves to a valuable program of study. If you are interested in this program, please contact the school.

Smart Energy Schools Pilot Project

School Infrastructure NSW is pleased to announce that Killara High school has been selected to take part in the NSW Government’s Smart Energy Schools Pilot Project.

The project is the largest schools-based trial of solar, battery energy storage and Virtual Power Plant technology in Australia.

Solar and battery storage systems will be installed at our school as part of the project, while teachers and students will also be able to access energy data from the systems via an online portal.
