Debating and Public Speaking

Congratulations to our students competing and winning in the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) Debating Schools Competition (round 2).  Anna, Sophie and Bosco competed in, and won, their second-round debate.  The topic they were given was "That parliamentarians should be allowed to hold citizenship other than Australian citizenship", and they argued thoughtfully and logically as the affirmative.  They are all looking forward to their future debating rounds this year.

Nimalan and Michelle competed in the 32nd Annual Ainger Peck Public Speaking Award, run by the Richmond Rotary Club.  The competition saw persuasive speeches delivered by entrants in Years 7-12 from schools across Melbourne.  Michelle spoke about the issue of unfair beauty standards while Nimalan argued for the need to acknowledge both the positives and negatives in life.  Both students represented Auburn High School with pride and excellence.  Well done to all our participants and thank you to Edon Germano for organising these events and being there to support our students.

Education Support (ES) staff morning tea

Monday 16 May was International Education Support Personnel Day, the day when schools celebrate the great work the Education Support staff perform.  We held a morning tea to thank all our ES staff who have been fabulous in supporting our students and teachers.  Our Education Support staff work is varied, where some work directly with students in classrooms assisting with their learning, others support the learning experience at a whole school level supporting students and families through their work in wellbeing, office administration, finances, ICT, careers, library, international students, in science practical classes, and this contributes to the effective running of our school.  Our teaching staff provided the morning tea on the day to show their gratitude and appreciation.

Year 9 Morrisby Career Profiling Assessment Monday 9th May 2022

Over the past weeks our Year 9 students have been taking part in the Year 9 Morrisby Career profiling assessment.  This is part of the Department of Education’s initiative to support all secondary schools and provide comprehensive career education from Year 7.  This free career advisory service for Year 9 students, allows students to complete a series of online questions and quizzes on the Morrisby Profile website.  Students then receive a Morrisby Profile Report showing their results and possible jobs that match their abilities, interests and personality.  Students and parents are invited to attend a meeting with a Morrisby-trained Career Practitioner, who explains the report.  I would like to congratulate our Year 9 students for their maturity and focus during the two-hour assessments, thank their teachers and in particular, Robyn Boardman, our Careers, Pathways and Transitions Manager for all her work in organising this.
